SO I tried this again,

turned off the secondary audio source and set the first to passthru...

handbrake made it through and I tested the file on my main mac... worked fine....

made popcorn, went downstairs and turned on the film... NO SOUND...
Tried other movies, all worked....

\So... back to the drawing board... visualhub keeps winning this battle.

I wonder if handbrake for windows is more reliable? might try the windows version on vmware fusion

have you tried the handbrake forums at handbrake.fr? they might yield a solution.

Aside from the initial problem I had, there's been no other issues.

Cheers,
keebler

if by "turned on the film" you mean tried to watch it on your atv with just the ac3 pass thru track, it won't work as apple borked it with atv 2.3. you need both the aac and ac3 track.

Thanks just converted with visual hub 1.34 atv + 5.1 setting and I think it worked perfectly.

Why don't people use VisualHUb? Whats the draw back?

Lots of folks (including myself) *do* still use VisualHub. It's nothing but a fancy GUI for some open-source tools but it works well for its intended purpose.

Handbrake is superior in every way so I generally only use VH when Handbrake has a problem with a particular title or file. The drawback is (unless I'm missing something, and I might be - I'm not a VH expert) you can't do anamorphic and there are some issues with audio as well on VisualHub.
