This product would clearly be hidden behind the tv or the stand. It is designed for those with a lack of outlets available.

Therefore, the choice is really between spending 25 bucks for this, or 5 bucks for a power strip that is also hidden. After all, if the power goes out the tv is still off even is the AppleTV is still drawing battery power.

This has got to be the most convoluted product I've ever seen! Your TV needs power already. There's a power outlet nearby that it's plugged into.

Just run the ATV power cord along the same path? Why bother with all this? And it has a battery that can fail too!
Not only the power cord. Need a long HDMI cable also. This option would allow a very short HDMI cable by mounting the Apple TV to the back of the TV. I think that is the main advantage. Also the main advantage to having TV’s made by folks like Amazon and Roku. That streaming stick a really nice option Also. Apple really should think about a stick.

I don’t think many of the commenters actually watched the video. It’s not meant to reduce cord clutter. It’s meant when you don’t have an extra AC outlet and don’t want to use a power strip. It’s for a niche case scenario so most people would have no use for this

Cables plugged into the Apple TV

Currently: one HDMI cable plugged into TV, one power cable plugged into the wall

Using the Mission product: one HDMI cable plugged into the TV, one Mission cable with battery brick plugged into the TV, $25 less in your checking account

Pass.

Or, you know, streaming set-top-boxes / sticks and TV manufacturers could have embraced a standard for power delivery over HDMI, if there was one. Oh, wait!

How? A uSB cable is replacing a power cable. That is cable for cable, as in, no reduction of cables...

But for me, I have a single outlet in a bathroom, and this 'solution' means I can now have an Apple TV connected to that TV without having to rewire the outlet or drag cable through an external wall full of insulation.

It solves a problem for me, which if more thought outside the box, would realize it IS a great idea! Just because you can't see a use for it, does not mean its useless to all and a waste of money. People, unironically, thought that the Apple TV was useless and a waste of money. Ironic for a device I use every day.

Yeah, it 'trades a cable for a cable', but eliminates the need for a power outlet for the Apple TV. SCORE!!!

Problem solved. Only $7.00 You can plug in your TV, Apple TV and look an extra one for a sound bar. If this doesn't work for you they make them with even more plug ins. Some even have surge protectors.

*SIGH* Sure, but not in all situations. The TV I have is over a tub. Adding a power strip is not a 'solution' that I am ready to use. I had thought of using a Firestick, but that's not a solution either. This isn't perfect, but it will work.

Okay, so you're ready to use this product but not ready to use a power strip that takes up the same space??? Got it. "SIGH"

So they're pitching this to people who hate cord clutter but...its a cord. A cord that now has a large battery brick in the middle of it. This is better than the regular cord how?

It's the National Electric Code (NEC), and not wanting to start a fire, or be electrocuted. Humidity can condense on a power trip and cause it to short out.
Now you're just making excuses for this. If you are truly worried about humidity causing shorts and what not then you shouldn't have a TV over your tub in the first place. Hopefully you have it plugged into a GFCI outlet which in turn will take away the risk of fires from shorts.

I really do wish the old rumors of Apple making an Apple TV in a "stick" form were true. That would solve many problems that folks are having with space and power outlets. I have 2 32" TVs in my bar area that I eventually want to add Apple TVs to. There is room and I have the outlet space but a stick device would be a better alternative.

Even if they have “more plug ins” there are still not enough if there are more devices than there are outlets. Power strip outlets are the biggest premium in my A/V system. Anything that removes the need for another outlet is welcome.

So confused.

Lots of derision on this thread, but if this thing works reliably I could actually see it being useful. I have a wall-mounted TV with an outlet behind it. I already have a little bracket that I could use to attach the Apple TV to the back of the TV, but I don't have the outlet space I need to plug another thing in behind there. Having an outlet duplicator gets in the way of the TV mount arm. This products seems like it could fit the bill, again, if it works properly.

If you have a modern TV set that has USB ports, you can get away with plugging your Apple TV into your TV set rather than having a separate power adapter.
The Apple TV HD/4K models has its own power AC cord, there is no power adapter? This might work if you can't have AC close by only.
