Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all the dads on MacRumors. 😀 And Happy Father's Day to the dads of my fellow MacRumors users.

My dad is largely responsible for my interest in computers--without him I would not be as tech savvy as I am today, nor would I have such an interest in Apple, so I probably wouldn't even be on this site. My dad has been very supportive throughout my life and I'm glad to be home from college and spend the weekend with him. I appreciate the way he raised me and I appreciate that I still have a great relationship with him. I feel like I can connect with him on an intellectual level (his academic achievements are a big part of my motivation for what I want to do in life, and I know I wouldn't have the same love of books and learning without his influence)--happy Father's Day to my daddy (I still call him that sometimes).

How are you celebrating this day?

If I'd called my Dad "Daddy" after the age of 6, I'd like to think that - if my brothers hadn't beaten the crap out of me - my Dad would have.

My daughter took me to the movies today. my wife and her tried to get me some maple cashew brittle at see's and they were out. we went there to get my wife some chocolate after the movies and they gave me 4 sample boxes of it. (I have been going there way too long) went out and picked great plant got this guy. soon to be a grandpa for the first time thats crazy for me.

😀 Maybe it's because I have two sisters...no one to beat me up 😛 Though I think it's mainly because my mom continued to refer to him that way long after I was "supposed" to stop saying it lol.

@steve knight Congratulations on becoming a grandpa 🙂 And yeah, I got my dad some See's candies too. That's a Father's Day/Christmas/birthday tradition.

@steve knight Damn, I thought *I* was old, razzing the Millennial a bit. But I guess I could be the grandfather of an infant? Not ever getting married leaves you hopelessly lost on the whole aging business.

I just think the world owes me one for NOT spreading my DNA any further. Obviously, it really needed to stop with me.

My father - whom I called 'dad', or - sometimes, in the years after I had graduated - "Charlie" - his name, or, when teasing him, "Charles Edward", (also his name - or, rather, the first two names that appeared on his birth cert) - passed away twelve years ago.

Yes, there were some slightly trying times in my teens - he was a practising Christian - not of the preachy kind, but devout enough - and it upset him that I - manifestly - was not.

But, by the time I had finished my first degree, we had become great friends, a situation that continued - we used to go to concerts together regularly, - Michael Nyman, classical music, - and eat out in Italian restaurants, lovely meals washed down with good Chianti or excellent Ripasso (which he described as 'nectar' when I smuggled some into him when he was in hospital the Christmas before he died) - until he died.

It is so important for kids to have a positive and supportive male authority figure in their lives; the experience of being on the receiving end of unconditional male love sets you up for life, whether you are male or female.

Twelve years later, I still miss my dad, and I know that my mother - they had an excellent marriage, were very good friends who liked one another and laughed a lot together - as well as spouses - never got over his death.
