heh, i figured it was too cheap to be true. do you know where I can find some 2.5 (assuming thats what MBP's use too) that are over 120gb?
it's a tradeoff between speed and capacity, i don't know of any SATA laptop drives over 160gbish at most that are within a reasonable price.

Anyone know when the Seagate Barricuda 7200 160GB is coming out? And price?

Barracuda is the seagate internal 3.5" drive. I think you mean Seagate Momentus. That is the Seagate mobile drive.

Any Momentus model number that looks like ST*******AS will probably fit in the MacBook. Make sure it's only 9.5mm THICK (not long, as a previous poster said). there are some of the 160gb drives that are 12.5mm thick that won't fit. If you can, physically inspect the drive before buying.

Any more questions, feel free to ask.

Yea I meant Momentus. I've been lookin for them but I can't find any. I find 120 at the most. What are some other brands that make 2.5" 160GB SATA's. This 60 GB stock HDD is killing me.

When I was looking around, I was only able to find 120GB 5400rpm SATA HD's for my MacBook. If you want 7200rpm, you will generally only be able to find 100GB (unless you are a better searcher than me).

For 160GB you're going to have to wait for that SATA "perpendicular" drive to come out. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong though.

Thanks - I was getting quite confused. I somehow convinced myself that this was another variation, like SATA vs ATA...
IDE is the same as ATA, which was renamed PATA after SATA came out.

And yes, perpendicular IDE laptop drives are already out I think, but not SATA (seagate momentus, 5400rpm i think). Perpendicular recording is another form of storing the data on hard drives in such a way to raise the density.
Best described in this flash vid by Hitachi: http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/research/recording_head/pr/PerpendicularAnimation.html

Lastly, Seagate and others will probably start seriously offering perpendicular drives by the end of this year, so if you can wait..

What would be the earliest you would say?
