You're not missing much in HS anyway, Craig said it was fully baked and it WAS. Mojave seems to be a much better update, but unfortunately it requires a better graphics card. I still haven't pulled the trigger on a GPU, let me know if there is an out of the box AMD card I can pick up with boot screen support, until then it's boring blue accent color HS with an HFS+ RAID 0 :/ Seems like the most fullproof option is an Nvidia GT 680 Mac edition but thats not too great and Apple keeps flirting with firmware so I wait.

I never run my RX580 in 10.12.6, but from memory, it should work natively (ONLY 10.12.6, not any earlier Sierra).

However, from others discussion so far, this card seems work better in HS (even better in mojave).

Anyway, if you are not forced to stay at Sierra, then no significant risk for buying this GPU. Just try it, if not work as flawless as expected in 10.12.6, then try HS or Mojave to see if work better for you.

I'll probably upgrade to HS, or even Mojave after the RX580 arrives, but I'll be a bit sad to sell my GTX680 4 GB card because it's been so good for me. It's flashed so it made life really easy, and it performed really well with games, like, GTA V, and many, many, other games. Great video card that stands the test of time. Kudos to Nvidia.

Just a quick note to say that the Kepler nVidia GTX770 does not accelerate High Sierra 10.13.6 (patched) on a MacPro 3.1
FCPX doesn't open even.
I thought it was basically a 680,...
It's recognized but not works at all.

Do you think it will work in Mojave?
[doublepost=1554299241][/doublepost]Which of all this listed cards are fully compatible with a MacPro3.1 with High Sierra/Mojave?

These specific third-party graphics cards are Metal-capable and compatible with macOS Mojave on Mac Pro (Mid 2010) and Mac Pro (Mid 2012):

  • MSI Gaming Radeon RX 560 128-bit 4GB GDRR5
  • SAPPHIRE Radeon PULSE RX 580 8GB GDDR5
  • SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7950 Mac Edition
  • NVIDIA Quadro K5000 for Mac
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 Mac Edition
Some other third-party graphics cards* based on the following AMD GPU families might also be compatible with macOS Mojave on Mac Pro (Mid 2010) and Mac Pro (Mid 2012):

  • AMD Radeon RX 560
  • AMD Radeon RX 570
  • AMD Radeon RX 580
  • AMD Radeon Pro WX 7100
  • AMD Radeon RX Vega 56
  • AMD Radeon RX Vega 64
  • AMD Radeon Pro WX 9100
  • AMD Radeon Frontier Edition

Not likely. See these two posts in this thread:

This report is with VideoProc (not FCPX), but does function the same. Likely CPU limited, despite some advertisement claims. Scroll through the end pages of that thread for additional reports. These are mostly with MP5,1. Newer processors then MP3,1.

NVIDIA GPUs "should" enable hardware acceleration for at least H264 varieties. Has been a selling point/advertised function since 8800GT and around then. HEVC is a totally different question.

Download the demo of VideoProc if you want to check for yourself.

Sorry, 4.1 and 5.1 processors work with SSE4.2 instructions, and 3.1 don't. I think this is the problem...

Officially, none.

Unofficial support only because you hack the install to "make" High Sierra or Mojave install on the older, unsupported hardware.

The GTX 680 Mac Edition may be your best option. At least it's officially compatible with native unhacked MP3,1:

I had strage issues with this 3.1 hack
It work with WX 7100 in high sierra but when mojave is installed the WX7100 wont work system wont load the kext

I cant alter the kexts in the system when it runs it wont let me over write the files.

Does someone has the already altered AMDController9500 and 9520 kexts with the devices id for wx7100 in it.

AMD GPUs don't work with Mojave and 2008 Mac Pro, AMD drivers need SSE4.2 and MP3,1 Xeon don't have it.

High Sierra you can still use with the Sierra drivers, that don't need SSE4.2, but not with Mojave.

Only NVIDIA Kepler GPUs work with MP3,1 and Mojave.

yeah figured as mutch until i found this list of kexts where the dev ids needed to be added
/System/Library/Extensions/AMD9500Controller.kext/Contents/Info.plist /System/Library/Extensions/AMD9520Controller.kext/Contents/Info.plist /System/Library/Extensions/AMDRadeonX4000.kext/Contents/Info.plist /System/Library/Extensions/AMDRadeonX4000HWServices.kext/Contents/Info.plist /System/Library/Extensions/AMDRadeonX4200.kext/Contents/Info.plist /System/Library/Extensions/AMDRadeonX4250.kext/Contents/Info.plist

After that high sierra would work with acceleration
but i cant fix that system wont let me overwrite then

If someone has these kexts already alterd for
device id 0x67C41002 that would be helpfull to get high siera working

I will not go and pay up for a kepler gpu that is mac supported they are way to expensive.
