So finally able to test the Main10 profile. Seems to be hardware accelerated on my XFX Radeon VII. So I stand corrected and excited.

I am afraid the 7.1MP does not support any 4:2:2 10bit HEVC hardware acceleration. I usually transcode my Canon XF HEVC material before starting the edit.

nb. Redcode 8k editting is even smoother than a 4K 10bit HEVC material. Also, no problems are experienced with 8bit HEVC material.

I have just tested adding an additional GPU (2nd VegaIIduo); it takes over part of the Redcode processing during editing in fcpx (still, some frames a dropped during playback). However, in case of 10 bit HEVC material, only 1 GPU (one VegaII) is in action, and playback stutters.

See e.g. my test results:

Is it possible the results would have been better if you added the Radeon 5700 instead of another VEGA due to the newer architecture?

Perforomance of HEVC 422 10bit from my R5 and 1DXIII is pathetic on my 7,1 with the W5700X. My M1 MM handles it flawlessly, annoys me to no end.

How a 16-core machine with decent graphics grunt can’t brute-force it is beyond me.
