I just found this on Apple's Knowledge Base, apparently MobileMe will still show up as .Mac in Tiger:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1932

Hope that helps answer why Tiger won't be getting the update to change the .Mac Preference pane (but it will still sync to MobileME.)

EDIT: Ahh, meli beat me by "that much!"

SO will us Tiger users be able to sync our calendars and contacts with our work PCs without the use of an iPhone?

Works fine for me in 10.4.11.
I haven't tested all the features, but I understand that some features are not fully supported (not sure yet which ones). .

I also know that Tiger is not getting a software update to change all your dotMac references to MobileMe. It might later, but not yet. We just have to click on dotMac in the sysprefs and live with it.

So far, I'm happy, or at least just as satisfied as I was with dotMac. Which is to say, I'm neither overwhelmed nor underwhelmed. Just plain whelmed, I guess. It's a useful service, but not exciting. The web apps look prettier now, I'll probably actually start to use them, when they start to work as well as promised. Which I think they will. I hope they fix the iDisk file sharing issue.

I did a finder search for "dotmac" and deleted the three .plist files that showed up. I restarted. And everything worked perfectly!

Prior to that I could not get it to sync at all (using Tiger).

Hope that helps some of you all.

Give this person the Gold Cup award. Perfect solution to a problem that has vexed me since MobileMe's availability date of 11 July 2008. Doing exactly what has been suggested above solved the problem and I am now using MobileMe on OS X Tiger 10.4.11 absolutely fine.

I tried dozens of suggestions on this and other forums, none worked.

Thank you very much for the solution, simple, elegant and most importantly, effective. :D :D :D

Let me just add my thanks.

Knew I shoulda come to MR first when I was having issues. Was getting the "can not sync to .mac" error in 10.4.11 and this cleared it right up for me and a friend.

Only odd thing for me was that finder didnt pull up the prefs when I searched so I had to just go in and grab the 3 files my self from my library.

Once again, thanks all.

I'm running 10.4.11.

I was having this exact problem:

Put me in the same boat as most of you. I still have the .Mac preference pane, and although I can access me.com, there's nothing there since the initial sync isn't working, I get an error message when trying to sync.

I also have a thread about it in Apple Discussions.

Then I tried this fix:

I did a finder search for "dotmac" and deleted the three .plist files that showed up. I restarted. And everything worked perfectly!

Prior to that I could not get it to sync at all (using Tiger).

Hope that helps some of you all.

Success!!!

Why no Tiger update with plist fix?

The plist fix worked for me also. Apple should have released an update for Tiger to sort this out although I guess they might want to include some other bug fixes in the release. Can't get exchange server to work with properly with MobileMe (can receive but can't send messages) but that's another story. Anyway, enjoying the MobileMe experience now - just wish I could send work emails from my iPhone but I suppose that's down to our enterprise setup. :)

Im running Os X 10.4.11 on a G4 and since trying to switch to me.com I cannot send emails. I also can't sync anything in System Preferences and my SENT and DRAFTS folders are all mixed up.

When I do a FINDER search for "dotmac", the only plist file that shows up is;

com.apple.DotMacNotifications.plist

Should I delete this? As Im not sure what im doing, deleting files feels wrong.

Any advice?

Bingo!!! This has been driving me mad for days - why can't Apple be as helpful, their silence is deafening at the moment!!!
