I’ve been debating lately what iPad to pick up and I keep coming back to the iPad Air. The only thing that is worrying me is the white spot on the display issue. I know it was pretty bad on the 10.5” Pro the more I’ve searched these forums and Google it sounds like it’s not great on the current gen Air either.

So my question is, Has anyone had the Air for a long period of time and hasn’t had the issue? If it’s a ticking time bomb to all iPads I just simply wont pick one up, but if some people have had no issues then it might change my mind.

im just trying to understand how much of a widespread problem it actually is.

There’s a design defect with the laminated 10.5 display. This is the reason why I didn’t pick up a refurbed 10.5 pro and holding out for something else. I’m fine with my older/cheaper iPads at the moment.

Mine doesn't have the white spot issue, but it does have the unresponsive touchscreen while charing issue.

The latest iPad 7th Generation is a better value than the iPad Air 3.
If you really want a 10.5” display or over 128GB the iPad Pro 10.5” is better (and still available new from resellers).
Yes the white spot issue is a risk on all 10.5” iPads.

I actually have the 10.2” now, but find it stutters a bit too often for me and the screen is very reflective.

‘Stuttering’ is likely a 3GB RAM issue, which the iPad Air won’t solve.
iPad Pro 10.5” or 11” then for you.

Speaking as a Pro 10.5 owner, that stutters, too.

And it’s been reported on the 11” too (although I’ve had none I can recall on my 10.5”). iOS 13 is not great all told, so perhaps it’s software optimisation issues.

Stuttering isn’t the end of the world for me, but I would like a better screen without question.

I’ve not seen this reported but last month Apple started a service program for a blank screen issue on the iPad Air 3...

If you want an upgrade from the iPad, the iPad Pro 10.5” or 11” are the best value, as you get a ProMotion 120Hz anti-reflective display and much better quad speakers too.

Two Air 3s replaced for white spot. One for screen defect.
I’m on my 3rd iPad Air currently and the replacement is already starting to show signs of this issue again! I’ve contacted Apple and now the executive team is working with me on it... they state that the engineers are wanting as much information about this as possible.

Have had mine since release and have the white spot issue an inch above the home button and lately noticed that there are tiny white spots right across the bottom of the screen as well now.So need to upgrade to the 11'' Pro now.Wondering if i should get the 2020 model or wait longer and see if they release the Mini LED version if there is such a model anytime soon.Apart from the spots no other issues with the iPad.

I bought my 10.5” Pro in early summer 2018, and it still has no white spots.

Got my iPad Air 3 last April when it released. So exactly a year.

Nothing yet fingers crossed.

I think the air 3 was Apple just clearing out the 10.5 screens they had from the 10.5 pros.. I don’t think we will see the air updated again but who knows.
