So we've seen the keynote and I will go ahead with the Xs Max but for the first time ever I'm not getting the maximum storage so will get 256gb.

I'm not happy with the prices, because Apple's cost of production has reduced significantly yet the Xs remains the same price - which it shouldn't have.

My friends and colleagues are shaking their heads and saying how stupid it is at the prices. It's amazing how things have changed, back in the iPhone 4 days, we were getting state of the art mobile technology for a very fair price - but hardware costs have significantly declined and iphone costs have even with inflation increased in a greedy manner.

I could get the Xr but I am fortunate enough to be able to buy Xs Max so I will get it. This might sound cynical but I hope in the future people find a way to run iOS reliably on Android like hackintosh on PC. Then I can buy a phone like a Galaxy S9 Plus which has far better screen and specs and still use iOS.

I am seeing a number of people turn around and saying they are not buying the new phones, anyone else decided against it as well and why?

Were you going to get the Xs/Xs Max and buying the Xr? Are you not buying any X models at all?

Most people who have publicly posted about not buying it secretly want to buy it. People actually not interested in something don't care enough to go online to an Apple forum and let everyone know how not interested they are.

Owners of the X are particularly guilty of this, because they want to still feel like they're top of the line even though that is now no longer true. Happens every generation.

I was planning to buy the big Xsbut after seeing the Xr, I’m sold. I think people may way too big a deal over PPI, OLED, etc. At the end of the day, it’s a phone and I love the white Xr.

I was strongly considering the XS Max prior to the keynote.
Now I am strongly considering the XR after the keynote.

Key factors:
1) XS Max entry model is already very high priced, but only comes with 64 GB, which would be a big compromise.
2) The next step up for the XS Max is 256 GB, but at a significant price premium.
3) The XR has Portrait Mode for the camera, despite only having a single lens.
4) The XR also starts at 64 GB, but has a reasonably priced 128 GB option. 128 GB is the sweet spot for me.
5) I've always wanted a red phone, but they've never had one with the latest tech at launch. The XR comes in red!

To summarize the above, what this means is both cameras have Portrait Mode, but comparing pricing of the appropriate configurations means going from the XR to the XS Max would mean spending 57% more. Had the entry level XS Max come with 128 GB, I might have considered it.

I've seen numerous threads about people complaining about the price, etc., while simultaneously saying they are still buying one anyway, so they aren't helping the price situation.

This thread is one of those.

I want it but am probably going to wait for a deal. We have a total of 8 phones on my account. Only 2 are currently making the “next” payments. I remember my mom got an x a couple months after release at full price. Like a week or two later they had them for 200 off. I’m thinking of waiting for December and seeing what kind of Christmas deals they have. I don’t see many drastic changes to phones now that make me think I have to have it on launch day.

Don’t get me wrong. I’d like to but if waiting a couple months saves a few hundred then so be it. Maybe when it gets to be just the wife and I’ll upgrade quicker. Who knows. Tomorrow morning they could still be available and I jump on one.

Yes, I am not buying the XS yet. Some cool features but I have an X so I'm happy.

I am going for a new Apple Watch to upgrade from Series 2.

I feel like I will appreciate it more as I missed the last one.

I am the complete opposite. I didn’t expect Apple to give me anything on my wish list and I was so mad about the loss of Touch ID, after trying the iPhone X for a month, that I went and bought an additional iPhone 8 Plus when the Product Red was released. I felt I was done with Apple for awhile and was going to focus on my Android line upgrade path.

Then I saw the Keynote, saw I got a key item on my wish list fulfilled and saw other significant (to me) improvements. I have reversed course entirely and plan to get an XS.

The exceedingly high costs, however, are keeping me from my usual habit of maxing the storage or going with the Max version. I’ll stick to 256 GB. Normally I get the biggest storage available but if I want to get Apple Care it’s just adding up to be too much. And it cheeses my fries that they aren’t including the dongle anymore (my cat will be so disappointed there’s nothing to steal during the unboxing) and that it’s the usual cheap small 5w charger in the box.

Well, my post just above yours is saying I probably won't buy the XS Max because of the price, and will likely get the XR instead.

I'm on the Apple Upgrade Program and was planning on getting the Max version. After the keynote though and really thinking about it, $7 more a month doesn't seem worth it. I thought $54/mo for a phone was outrageous but the X was such a huge upgrade I did it anyway. This time around the only thing that appeals to me is the bigger screen, and that's not enough for me to make the jump. Keeping my iPhone X here, it's a fantastic phone, and expensive enough ;)

This is my thinking exactly.

I was 90% certain of buying two new phones until I saw the pricing.

Below is the order probability my purchase. I have a 256 iPhone Plus. Wife has 64 gig.

1. Wait to next year. (40%)

2. Buy XR. (35%). have one month to decide.

3. Buy 256 XS Max (25%). Have 12 hours to decide.

I wanted a larger phone (currently have the iPhone 7) and was looking forward to what we now know as the iPhone XS Max. However after seeing the XR and the prices I might go with that. Really depends on if Verizon has any good trade in promos. Likely will be getting the XR though when I went in fully expecting to get the "iPhone Xs +".

i was bored by the keynote. and this is the first keynote i actually was excited for. I have the iphone 7 plus. The voice part of my phone is not working so i have to upgrade. I travel a lot for my job and honestly i think im tired of the big phone. so i want the x. But i don tthink i will get the XS. nothing about it made me go wow. so im going to try to see if i can get a good deal on the iphone x. if not ill go to the xs.

I see where you are coming from in terms of timing, but in truth, nobody is forcing you to buy tonite. There's nothing wrong with waiting... other than the wait.

Yeah, I've decided against the Max. It's just way too expensive. Now I'm debating over the XR or XS, but leaning toward the XS.

I would probably have upgraded my X to the Xs if they had dropped the price as speculated but just gonna keep the X now.

Can I ask why the XS over the XR for you? My choices were XR or Max, XS was not considered for me.

If I hadn't already sold my iPhone 8 (currently using a 6) I would probably decide against a buy, but I've kind of painted myself into a corner

Hopefully a carrier offers a decent trade in for the 6 and you can pick up an XR.

Same here. The XS wasn't even an option, mainly because of size. The only two viable options for me are the XR and the XS Max, but the latter is very, very pricey so it makes it less of an option.

I’m keeping my 6s no need to upgrade, just got a new battery for 29.00 and now performs like brand new. I’ve got 128GB so don’t need anymore space.

iPhone 6s the last great iPhone
  • Last model to use headphone jack
  • First to use 3D Touch
  • Last iPhone to have a real button
  • First iPhone to include Live Photo’s
  • First with a 12 megapixel camera
  • First iPhone to get 2 GB of Ram
  • Best of all Apple will support it with iOS 12
It’s a powerhouse iPhone in a small design, not too small like the SE but just right for front pockets.

Well, I honestly thought the selfie camera would get upgraded in the iPhone Xs.

And while it sounds dumb, I just really want the best selfie camera lol.

So like I would have maybe/probably upgraded if it was like 8MP upgrade.

but it's still 7MP, so I'm not sure why I would unless somehow it's DRASTICALLY better
