iPod Has anyone seen this iPod spoof?

Why can't I play this movie??? I have tried this an others set up in similar fashion. Can't see them. Frustrating, (sorry to be off thread)

Need a little more information to help out with this. What System (Panther, Tiger, etc.), what browser (Safari, Firefox, Camino, IE, etc.), and do you have any plug-ins installed?

Played fine for me with Quick Time plug-in.

Have you tried downloading it to disk first? Its encoded with Sorenson Video 3, so unless you are using a very old Ver of QT you should be able to play it.

It's British Humour. We're not supposed to get it - it's designed to fly right past us. It's how they get back at us for that little hissy fit we threw a couple of hundred years ago. :)

Personally, I think it's a joke they're all in on. Something entirely unfunny is produced, along with some kind of a subtle cue that only Brits know to look for. When that cue appears on the screen, they're to laugh as if it's the funniest thing in the world - just to make those from former colonies feel like we shouldn't have left in the first place. :(

Come on, guys - admit it! ;)

PC Plod is the police officer from the cartoon 'Noddy', for those that didnt know

OK - so let me attempt to unsophisticate this humour:

Police Constable (PC) Plod is a cartoon character from the land of Noddy, where the legislature is constantly coming up with new ways to take away human rights and liberties.

Because the legislature is constantly passing new laws and needs to let the PC's know about these new laws, paper memoes have become inefficient. And so the legislature now has its laws put out as Podcasts that PC Plod can download each day and listen to while on his rounds to stay up to date on new laws.

And it's funny because he normally is too serious a character to dance?

Am I close? ;)
 
At the moment, the public are getting more disgruntled with the fact that police officers spend more time reading and filling out paperwork than they spend on the beat (Hence the "incompatible with most PCs"). Must be a Home Office intiative to give all the officers iPods and launch a podcasting (Plodcasting?) service so they can get out on the beat and catch up with the latest pointless directive from the Home Office ;)

Aha - it seems that "Home Office" was another trouble point. For U.S.'ers, a home office is the room or portion of a room where people who work from home (either all of the time or part-time) do that work. Usually consisting of a desk, a computer, a fax machine, etc.

I was wondering what a home office had to do with anything! :)

I live in Canada, which probably won't really make a difference, but I don't enjoy a lot of american humour. I like Jerry Seinfeld, Robin Williams, Tim Allen, etc.. but I have thorough dislike for the 'redneck' homour, and most black comedians, like David Chapelle. I find them to be too rude, and just not funny. I did enjoy a couple Martin Lawrence movies, but not his standup.

As an American from the Philadelphia area, I agree with you on the 'redneck humor'. Its terrible. I like some 'black humor' though.
 
Canadian here.

American humour is great. Some black humour is a little too rude, but most of it is acceptable. Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle are hilarious. But I tend to like the more international humour seen at the Just For Laughs standup comedy festival in Montreal. :) There are plenty of Americans there (Ray Romano, Tim Allen, Wayne Brady), but there's also people from around the world... Australians, Brits, Japanese, and lots of Canadians.

Hey, that Canadian comedy is good stuff too. Especially Russell Peters! :)

Was this clip made after the experiment to give ipods to jobless youth in the UK was announced?

Yeah, I get it now. We had no idea what plods and PCs (in this context) had to do with police officers or what any of the dialogue had to do with anything. I wouldn't call this an example of Brit humor that Americans don't get. It's more like satire about a subject that we aren't familiar with.
 
I dunno, I found Kids In The Hall pretty funny. Benny Hill too. I think it's just the context. This, I don't get. I'm sure it's very funny though if you know what the heck they're talking about.
