"Canuck" and yes it is. Dave Foley was in it, and has gotten semi-big. The rest of the cast hasn't really though.

Ooops, right. ;) Ahhh, Dave Foley... I like him. What's he up to? I actually really liked News Radio.

Yes, Canadian. For the record some of them have done a few things. Bruce is a director, Mark was on SNL, Kevin does voice work (Lilo and Stich, Invader Zim), and Scott has been on TV (Larry Sanders) and doing comedy shows. Maybe they aren't huge, but they're still around. ;)

So, do Europeans have this much trouble understanding American humor?

Well, depends on what you mean by "Europeans". According to rumors, Germans don't understand any humor at all. In order to distract from this fact, they broadcast comedy TV shows that they claim are funny, but nobody else in Europe understands. Austrians (the small country south from Germany) on the other hand do understand humor - as long as the laugh is not on them (which it has been most of the time in the last few years, since their parliament resembles a theater with a bad cast rather than a group of reasonable politicians). British humor is of course - as anybody in Europe knows - brilliant, and all Europeans seem to agree on that (though it's pretty much the only thing they agree on at the moment). With respect to US humor, well, we Europeands do love Seinfeld ;-)

Would make more sense to say, "I'm certainly not english, but I am crazy."

He didn't say "all british are english", he said "the english are crazy".

(Aren't all you English supposed to be good at rhetorical logic? - Just kidding.) :)

For the record - since this thread has become a great conversation for understanding different sides of the pond - most U.S. Americans use British only to refer to England (and use Irish or Scottish to refer to everyone else). Much in the same way that you probably use "American" to refer to U.S. folks, despite the fact that "American" actually refers to people from Canada to Chile.

Of course, we named our country (U.S.A.) really poorly, leaving us with nothing proper to call ourselves. We can't call ourselves Unitedans. We can't call ourselves Stateans. We're left with Americans, which describes everyone else on two continents. ;)

No worries - in general, US'ers are horrible with international politics. I'm sure most of us don't even know the G8 is going on, let alone have an opinion to where it's being held. And, if the masses did know about it, we'd probably be told that the G stands for George. ;)

Enjoy life - and teach us more about what you think we should know. We're learning a lot here!

LOL...see now, the problem with both the US and the UK, recently, is that it is getting increasingly hard to tell when news events are just being reported objectively and when they are being satirized.

I do have to say, though, that I have seen good German humor that was not, AFAIK, unduly influenced by Vienna. It is always on very German topics. I saw a really funny movie recently about people in Eastern Germany who were trying to adapt to post-reunification life...their mother is a total apparatchik, but falls into a coma shortly before the beginning of reunification. When she wakes up, their city is increasingly becoming a part of the New Germany...everyone, that is except her. Very funny.

Now French humor.... Hmmm... Some of it is really funny. I don't know what it is, though, but it seems that whenever I watch a French movie, it seems to have the quality of a movie made 10 or 15 years in the past. I don't care for the cream pie variety of humor, but I have seen some excellent French humor too....

But if anything killed the British Empire, it certainly wasn't their humor. In fact, it was perhaps the very suppression of it that led to their demise. A British joke is a soaring soul, as free as a mountain bird. :)

Need a little more information to help out with this. What System (Panther, Tiger, etc.), what browser (Safari, Firefox, Camino, IE, etc.), and do you have any plug-ins installed?

Played fine for me with Quick Time plug-in.

Woof, Woof - Dawg
Sorry, should have known better than to fly off the handle. I have QT7, and run safari. I don't think I have any plug ins installed unless they install themselves. Seems that most of the plug ins I have are from Photoshop. There isn't anything listed under Safari. I am using Tiger.

Thanks.

99% of Americans don't know that the G8 summit is imminent. Only some of those that do will care. And even fewer think it will amount to something. Let's see, a bunch of Europeans urging Bush to do something about global warming. Yeah, that'll work.

Is that the topic?

Oh, is that the topic? Here I thought it was that whole NAFTA thing. (Puts on dumb American face.)

Kinda funny - news reports tell us that the G8 is happening, that protesters are there, but handily mention nothing about the topics of discussion. For all we know, they're discussing color-coordinating the draperies of their respective executive mansions.

And, scarily enough, more of us would probably see the global impact of coordinated draperies than the real topics (whatever they are!) ;)

Which state is British Columbia in again?

Edit - OK, so I'm watching the news, and right after I press "Submit", a report on the G8 comes on the news, and they did mention that African famine was the main topic of discussion - but only after 3 minutes of video of protestors throwing box frames. So, I partially admit to being wrong.

haha nice one!

also funny to hear that ASBOS were added to the english dictionary!

not sad british humour at all, just a joke localised to england! ;)

on a local note, the local police, the psni, have put up adverts reminding people of typical ways to prevent crime on bus shelters in the style of ipod adverts. i'll try and find an online example!
