I have tried to fix the search issue in messages. After I restored my phone from an iTunes backup and found that nothing was searchable prior to the restore. I went ahead and backed up my iphone to iCloud and then reset it as new and then restored the iCloud backup. This resolved my issue.
I then tired to resolve this on my wife's iPhone 7Plus and in a similar fashion backed it up to iCloud and then reset as new and then restored the iCloud backup. This did not resolve an issue with her device. I was able to search for some of the messages but not all, it was almost random. I decided to restore from iTunes again, however, now she can't search thru any messages sent or received prior to the restore.
I think I am onto something. It appears that the iCloud and iTunes handle backups differently. I may have forgotten a step that I took on my iPhone 7Plus and that is why it did not help my wife's phone.
Would appreciate it if someone could think of how to proceed.

Thank you.

I can't believe that there are no more complaints about this issue or was everyone somehow able to fix it? Please share.

It is absolutely ridiculous that I submitted logs to Apple on September 26 as well as quicktime videos documenting the problem with messages search. I am now told that the original engineer who was working on it is no longer assigned to the case and now there is a new engineer involved who is asking for logs. WTF? They obviously lost the logs and are just wasting my time. This is not the Apple that I switched to ~10 years ago. It used to JUST WORK. Now I am reliving my nightmares that I had with HP back then and that was the reason I switched to Apple.

Very surprised that not more folks noticing this messaging bug. I guess I'm one of few that actually uses the search feature.

It's probably more a combination of people not using all that much as well as people knowing it's not that good to begin with (as it often doesn't take you to the actual message which might be in further back in a longer conversation) and not really using it much because of that or not expecting much from it.

I have the same issue and it's very annoying, just simple searching does not work for message.

Literally been talking about this since the beginning of time.

By far the most elementary feature that iOS is incapable of.

It's baffling.

It's almost to a point where there must be some actual reason why they can't.

Why are you guys complaining when Tim Cook released new emojis that he 'thinks we're going to love'. It's as if you think apple have the resources to make their software work

Search in general is pretty bad on iOS 10... I still have the spotlight search bug where if I search for a contact, it finds it but loads a blank contact card when I select the contact

Search is still useless. As is general spotlight search in general on an iPad. One of the many things that makes working on an iPad annoying.
