This year Apple focused on stability rather than adding new features. However I think a lot of Apple's software updates hold more value if you own multiple apple products because a lot of the new features make your devices work together better.

However I think we all see things differently. I think over the last few years android updates have been quite boring. The hardware on android is good though, often more exciting than the latest iphone.

I know there are some things that can be improved with iOS, however, your issues with iOS are things that you’ve could have quickly found out by visiting an Apple store and playing with an iPhone for 5minutes or watching a YouTube video.

The whole customization argument is an argument that’s been happening for years. We’re very limited.

If these things are important to you, then Android is the better option. There are a couple of amazing android phones out right now and one plus is making an announcement soon.

I think you've already got what you wanted out of the XR:

"I wanted something really fast, stable, and with great battery life."

You mentioned nothing about "exciting."

I just picked up an Xr and I'm back to iPhone after 2 years of Android. My biggest impression is just how boring and bland iOS is.

As a software company Google is just way better at the software side of things and it's showing by how much Android is improving while iOS has stayed so stagnant. Google is simply doing so much more with software and as people start to own phones for longer, software then becomes much more important rather than hardware.

Just look at how much Google Assistant has improved while Siri has been lagging behind. It's a microcosm of what's been happening with Android vs iOS in general. The Call Screening feature that they have on the Pixel 3 is a great example of a killer feature. Something that apple is not close to achieving. The Night Sight feature with the camera looks to be the same and vastly ahead of what Apple is capable of right now.

In 2018 Android is the much more exciting OS. As a mobile OS I believe that Android surpassed iOS sometime between the 2 years I stopped using iPhone and on Android. Now the gap is just getting bigger.

Now Apple has its strengths too, namely the hardware. The A12 is leaps ahead of what is out there from a mobile processing standpoint. I purchased the Xr because I wanted something really fast, stable, and with great battery life. That being said, if I had known how bland iOS is right now I probably would have reconsidered switching back to iOS.
If night shot and call screening are important to you, you should stick with Google. Apple has the Airpods and Apple Watch that are FAR better than anything offered on the Google side, and I consider that "exciting", while Android wear and Pixel Buds are "boring and bland".

I'm going out on a limb and say you don't care much about your privacy then. Google has been able to do all those things because they just love to find any excuses to gather data about you. On the other hand, Apple designed iOS to handle most of the work on-device using onboard machine learning. A lot of the data it uses is processed through privacy techniques like Differential Privacy to protect your identity unlike Google. They track your every activity just so they could make money off of you.

But when your focus is providing an experience without compromising your users' privacy, you're severely limited on your innovations. And when a company gets too greedy for its own good, the consumer ends up with an OS that's riddled with malware reports. Thousands of apps downloaded from the official Play Store have been spying on the users and a lot of them are on the top 200.

If you want a taste of it, just go to myactivity.google.com and have a look at all the data Google has gathered on you so far. Now you can just repeal and replace everything again with Facebook instead of Google and the result is the same, if not more dangerous.

The op just hates apple.

His post history is there for anyone to see.
I don’t hate Apple. If I did I wouldn’t have an iPhone, or AirPods. I just am not a Apple sheep and call things like it is. Is iOS boring? Yeah. Does Apple have a great recent track record of offering compelling products? No.

If using your phone as the tool it’s intended to be, the OS doesn’t need to excite. Quality apps that use the OS to run that’s what should be exciting.

Then stop using and buying the products. You make no sense.

Lately I've been very critical of Apple and iOS 12 (actually) in my posts. Battery life going down, a bit of slowness. I'm even mad at Apple nowadays and to be honest, I thought about buying a new phone this one being a Pixel. But guess what, the OS kept me from doing it even if I have a grudge here. I've played with Android phones' friends and delighted myself in tweaking and personalizing the wonderful screen. But is there something else? Unhappy Apple customers with its ridicule prices, yes but not disappointed with iOS. Does that make me a captive customer. Sure and proud of it too.

I never wanted an "exciting" phone. I want one that works. All the time. Android. hahahaha. Nope.

Exciting. Fine for kids and plastic phones.

People put to much focus on the home screen which really, is just a portal for you to access your apps.

Choose a customer Wallpaper and use the Smartphone.
