That costs a bit more than I'm planning to spend; selling the 23" may allow for one 30" and the imac while being almost cost-neutral. The problem is that I can't imagine the 23" would sell used for the needed $1000.

naah, don't do that. Get one 30" and one miniCD+2GB (to go with the 23). Perfect combo.

ATI X850 - it can support one 30", and one <30" IIRC.

+2 GB RAM for the PM (to take it up to 4GB; anyone need 512 MB PM RAM?)
a 300GB Seagate HD
"NewerTech ministack V2" (one of those mini-sized enclosures that is also a firewire/usb hub)

30" ACD
iSight
Mac mini Core Duo (2GB RAM, otherwise stock)
wired keyboard/mouse

Whew; $4000 down the tubes. In about a week and a half, I'll let you all know how things are working out!
