I am not due for a new phone, but it looks like this is a great alternative to iOS.

Good build factor: Ceramic back and keys, Gorilla glass 2 etc etc etc.

Oh and LTE

Screen size is a nice sweet spot of 4.5"

Anyone gonna nibble?
 
The OS looks pretty amazing so far too.

It's an awesome time for consumers right now, with so many options. Having another player will only make everyone step up their game.
 
Agreed, that thing is a sexy beast. I may try it, though I still have some reservations about WP8.
 
I really wasn't sold on it... I wanted to be too. What about it makes it worth getting over an iPhone or an Android? Apple will level the game, specs-wise, with the Lumia next week and some Android phones already have greater specs.
The hardware does look great and I love the sound of the screen tech, but what's the point of inductive charging? That'll make it hard to use the phone while charging.

Microsoft hasn't really revealed anything amazing about the OS yet either. Everything they described sounded like they were playing catch up with what's already out there. :(
 
This thing is actually slightly thicker than the 800/900 which was 12.1 mm thick. Apparently Nokia doesn't know how to build a thin phone.
 
This looks like, by far, the most promising phone and OS out there right now. That includes the iPhone 4L.

My threshold for purchase is a screen larger than 4.3+", 32gig on board, good battery and a good, tight ecosystem and a modern, intuitive OS. Oh, in a good looking package.

The iPhone hits those marks except for the screen and outdated OS. The 920 hits all the marks for me. Can't wait to play around with one.

No one else is doing a homescreen anything like what they're doing.

Looks pretty interesting to me (I love my widgets and live content), so I'll definitely be checking it out.
 
The Nokia Lumia 920 definitely looks interesting. I, for one, am holding out to see the entire field.

I hope these are sturdy as the Nokia standard. Could definitely be a plus point for me in this area :D

Any word on the pricing yet?

Did you really say, "what's the point of inductive charging?" Followed by "That'll make it hard to use the phone while charging."

Seriously? You obviously have never used the tech. Makes life so much easier and no cords to mess with. And this is not replacing your ability to plug in a charger if you need it. It is just another convenient options. (one that will cost you extra and put more money in Nokia's pocket btw.)

I messed around with the 900 for a little while and I agree with you, to a point. The OS is fast and smooth, but feels to much like I'm going through DOS command lines to drill down to what I want in their men's. I also can not stand the looking of the bright neon colored tiles. I don't know enough about the new Nokia's phones or the OS to know if these can be changed, but if they can, I would definitely be interested. I will never go back to an iPhone, so more other options out there the better for me.
Note: I have never owned or used a WP for any significant length of time to have any sort of valid critique. I only base my opinion about the menus and tiles based on limited use and preference.
 
I just don't know. I was really hyped up about these phones, but reality has to come back and hit me.

1. Weakest app selection

2. Poor ecosystem with my needs (Mac, soon to be iPad mini)

3. No release until the end of October ie. iPhone 5 and forthcoming flagship Android phones.


And the biggest deal breaker:


4. NO CYAN

True, it's an interesting blend of what's been done in iOS and Android.

It doesn't make life easier if you use your phone often while it's charging. You'll either be accidentally pulling the phone off its dock constantly, or picking up the dock along with the phone if you want to use it. I can see it being a nice little novelty, but it's not really a selling point.

His point was that it's an option.

If you want to plug it in and use it like you normally use any other phone while it's plugged into a charging cable, you're free to do so.
 
Perfect size screen + stunning home screen = A great device, hopefully more info comes out
last Nokia Device I held was the N900 I believe lool :D

And Windows Phone 8... Easily years ahead of both Android and iOS with live tiles. With one click of a button, you can see what's going on with mail, people, weather, apps, photos, etc... Exactly what I need in a smartphone. Plus, Fluid and fast.
 
I'm certainly intrigued but I'm also concerned. The phone looks beautiful, but yet I'm not sold on Nokia or wp8. I guess I'll wait and see how it pans out when it comes out.

2. When can I buy one?

These are the only two things that matter in a press event and yet some companies continue to do "pricing and availability to be announced". Until then this phone is vapour, it does not exist.

If its not ready to ship then don't do the event. Due towards the end of October? Do the event then, not in September when you can't sell anything to anyone.

+ 1 million for inductive charging

I had a couple of Palm WebOS devices, and boy was it luxurious to just put the phone down on a Touchstone charger instead of fumbling around with wires.

My son-in-law had Touchstone chargers at home, at the office, and in his car. The magnets inside held the phone in the right position.

It was also cool that it went into speakerphone mode automatically if you answered a call while it was on the charger.
 
Even in internet videos the display looks brilliant on the 920. I'd like to see it up close and see how good its direct sunlight visibility really is.
