I know the position your in I left on Monday for a week and a half of travel and that was before we knew the shipping date. I left a sticky on the door to leave it with my neighbor. At least I will be home now, I took the day off.

I'm in the unfortunate situation of being home but having to take a remotely proctored final exam between 10:00 AM and 1:45 PM that day. So, I'm ambivalent about whether I should get up to answer the door if he knocks during the exam or just maybe do a pre-sign and be worried that it's sitting at my door for potentially 3 or 4 hours. The last thing I want is the administrators to look at the video (the exam software actually records me taking the exam) and see me get up in the middle and answer the door to accept a package. I would hope they wouldn't be that uptight about it, but law schools take potential academic ethics violations really seriously. I don't the device it has sound recording, so I can't just explain to the camera what is happening. At the same time, I don't really want to draw attention to it by typing something about it into the exam answers if they don't even actually look at the recording. It would be nice if it came before 10 AM and I didn't have to worry about the guy knocking while I'm trying to puzzle out the tax code for my final. :p

get to fed ex distribution center at 5 am. FInd out which truck, stalk him until his first stop.

Once you have the tracking number, call Fedex. Explain to them that you're leaving town early and really want the package, so see if they will hold it for you at the local Fedex office instead of putting it on a truck. Then you can just go pick it up.

Alternately, since you explained that you're going out of town and you NEED the package, see if they can get the driver to make you one of the first stops.

Might work, might not. Worth a try.
