Yeah, I'm just going to hope for a whitebox 3.1.2, the update sucks IMO. I really just want a phone that has working wifi, I'm new to the 3g scene.

I guess I should have elaborated and asked if anyone was working on a native 3.1.3 jb, but I just don't care anymore.

Thanks for the help:)

I don't bother customising and pirate apps are usually more trouble than they're worth but the stock OS is such a pain to use compared with how easy a few jailbreak tweaks make things.

agreed! SBSettings alone is worth JB...

I love my jailbreak on my 3G, tethering, lockinfo, sbsettings, rotation inhibitor, cycorder, NES, snaptap, all are really awesome and I dont see slow down in my phone. However, the one thing I absolutely love is winterboard. I love it but after I get my theme my phone noticeably slows down, and at first it doesnt bother me, but after a while, when i close an app and it doesn't fade away it just closes abruptly, i delete it. I would love for my phone not to slow down while using winterboard but thats the life of having 1/2 less memory than a 3GS

Just wondering who here has decided after having their JB iPhone to give up their JB and go back to the standard iPhone and why. I liked the JB but I am tired of Cydia crashing on me and always worrying about the firmware bc after my last trip to the Apple store I now have FW 3.1.3 on my phone

I have an intro-day 3GS that has not crashed once since jailbreaking it a few months ago. Cydia has been solid, as has everything else. I mention it because it seems these issues are not necessarily inherent in jailbroken iPhones.

I agree with that, I never had reliability problems after jailbreak.

However, I do confess to being unjailbroken right now, brecause of O2's new policy of official free unlocking. The other stuff was fun, but my no 1 reason to jailbreak was to unlock. I think my rationale now is that, having played a lot and learned a lot when jaibreaking and unlocking, I actually think Apple now have the phone pretty well sorted out - video, MMS, decent SMS functionality, etc etc. I may go back to jailbreaking in the future but for now I just can't be bothered. (Still haven't gone to 3.1.3 though, just in case.......)

I love my themes, sbssettings, and SSH too much to not jailbreak.

No way withouth JB:

I have so many Mobile Substrate add-ons but I still don't have any problem with JBing (slowness, carshing - 1 or 2 times in last 6-8 months).

I have following MS addons/cydia apps:

1. Lockinfo
2. ICON shrink
3. Five Col SB
4. Inifinidock
5. Categories and CategoriesSB
6. recent call log delete
7. quickscroll
8. ProSwitcher
9. Kirikae (don't use much)
10. Quickdo
11. SBsettings
12. VolumeMedia control
13. iProtect
14. 3G unrestrictor
15. MailAttachmentSaver
16. Safari download manager
17. Backgrounder
18. Bosspaper
19. GV Mobile
20. iFile
21.Multiexchange (Setup gmail for push too)
22. Notifier
and so on...

I don't think I can have same fun with iPhone without all these...

I love having my phone JB, enjoy changing the themes, the apps......

I even make my own custom themes which I enjoy doing. Only had the odd problem with Cydia crashing maybe 3 times total in the last 8 months. So I'm happy.

That makes sense. Similarly, I jailbroke for the untethered access AT&T claimed they'd offer during 2009. Now that my phone (not Apple's...mine) is free from Apple, I'd never go back. It seems Apple and AT&T are the ones driving the jailbreak community, so they ought not complain about it. :D

Since many are listing apps, I'd stay jailbroken for tethering, mulittasking (Backgrounder with ProSwitcher), Categories, SBSettings, SSH capability, UAFaker, the rotation blocker, xGPS, Cydia, Winterboard, Skype on 3G, and a few others. Also, having the springboard and the dock at five columns allows me to keep everything on one page.

Alright, back from the Apple store, got mine replaced due to wifi issues. I got a 3.1.2fw w/ 05.11.07 for a bb. If I'm reading the s/n correctly: 5K952.... I've got a week 52 of 2009. This would mean I'm going to have issues (as in needing a tethered jb), right?

Wrong! (so far;)) I ran blackra1n on a whim, and it went through just fine, got Cydia installed and everything. I downloaded a few jb apps that would require a respring and they worked like a charm. I figured it may still think it's tethered, so I unplugged it from my pc and downloaded another respring-required app. Still no problem, weird.

I even turned the phone off and turned it back on again, no hookup to the pc required. Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on here? Are the refurb serial numbers different or in different places on refurbs as opposed to new ones?

The K in your serial number indicates that your phone was remanufactured. Obviously it was remanufactured using a chipset with the old bootrom. Consider yourself very lucky!

the redundancy in this list is laughable.

I used to do a lot of theming, etc., but I just lost interest.

I'm pretty happy with the Apple-sanctioned OS...... the only thing that I miss about JBing is sbSettings.

agreed! SBSettings alone is worth JB...

really that's what it comes down to

I could live without springboard

but I will never go back to not having the ability to immediately turn on/off
3g, wifi, rotation, immediate brightness, etc

well that and Installous :p

Switch RockApp - WAY faster, more features. Built-in app-store with a few great apps!
Just wondering who here has decided after having their JB iPhone to give up their JB and go back to the standard iPhone and why.
The reason why I jailbroke was for two reasons:
  • App limitation over 3G (Skype, Slingplayer, etc)
  • Tethering
  • Unlock
  • Other interesting things...

Apple / AT&T are pretty much alleviating that first bullet point... It looks like I'll be able to use Skype and Slingplayer over 3G without any add-on applications soon!

As for tethering, as soon as AT&T lets me sign up for it, I'm in!

That leaves unlock / misc. I have ZERO need for an unlocked phone. I use AT&T and when I go international, I roam. However, the second the new iPhone comes out, I put my unlocked phone on eBay, sell it at a profit, and use that money to buy my new phone. So based on this repeating tradition, I don't see myself ever stopping the continuous jailbreaking!

Also I've found a few great utilities like SBSettings, QuickReply SMS, etc. They've made my iPhone life better.

So in conclusion, I'm keeping my jailbreak alive - in fact, i updated to 3.1.3 today and I'm unlocked and good to go! However, it seems that as Apple develops the OS and AT&T loosens up, the need to jailbreak is dwindling over time...

I've stopped. With the new bootrom it's just not worth the constant wondering if it's gonna reset or kill the battery or fall out of my pocket or whatever that will leave me an hour from home with a worthless phone. And for what? Slingplayer via 3G which is going to happen soon without the need to jailbreak. So you win, Apple. I'll use the arbitrarily limited, boring thing you made and forget about the nearly unlimited, exciting device it could have been.

Well, until something better comes along, which will be a lot easier to find now. ;-)

Perhaps "lucKy"? Haha, thanks for the dialogue today, latinist:) I'm going to go buy a lottery ticket!

Actually not that lucky.

Most warranty exchanges done after 30 days are via remanufactured phone.

So far, all the remanufactured 3GS phones have had the old bootrom.

Sorry to break your bubble but you might still get lucky with a lottery ticket.

My bubble is not burst, no worries :)

I've actually had a 3G until about 2 days ago, this is my first venture into the 3GS world. I've been missing out on so much speed, it's intense! Of course I'd pick pretty much the worst week of the year to upgrade, lol

I very nearly gave up!

But I have just restored and adde what I need! Status notifier and a few other things

I just recently JB for the first time. I use it for small tweaks, I don't want themes or ringtones, but SBSettings, 3G Unrestrictor, Infinidock, Fiveirow and Quickreply make it the phone I want it to be. Don't get me wrong, I loved the phone in stock form and if I got stuck going back I wouldn't be too upset but this is great.

I used to do a lot of theming, etc., but I just lost interest.

I'm pretty happy with the Apple-sanctioned OS...... the only thing that I miss about JBing is sbSettings.
I have a few tweaks, custom alert tones/ wallpapers, etc, but none of them are vital, that is, except SBSettings and Backgrounder. Those are the only things that I jailbreak for.

Apple hasn't made it worth giving up my jailbreak for quite some time. Just as it was with the past three updates, I'll have no issue waiting for the jailbreak to come unless Apple gives us something big...

... and really, what are the chances of that?

...if

...if Apple allowed multitasking and there were "reasonable" tethering plans offered I would probably stay stock.

I have never looked at pirated apps. It seems like ATT/Apple are loosening up on the 3G vs WiFi restrictions which was the only other reason I JB to begin with.

All the other stuff like sbSetting, Proswitcher, Cyntack, Safari downloader, iFile, and the other 20 things I have are nice but I would not JB just to get them.
