I couldn't because of my work pc. I want to replace my home desktop with a Mac. At this point I seldom use my PC at home because of my iPad 1 and 4S. iCloud has made the lack of PC needed, just as they said.

Not gonna happen for me in the near future.

For one, you can't even use all of Apple's products (ie -ATV2) without having a PC or Mac, in this case to run iTunes. The internal storage of the iPad is too limiting for all my files, much less my iTunes collection, and I can't stand typing for any length of time on an iPad or iPhone. It's great for short stuff, but even replies to forums like this are a pain because of the lost screen real estate (a PC or Mac) screen is a lot easier to see while typing than an iPad screen is.

Though, maybe they'll get all of the bugs worked out in a few years, and it'll be great. It's just not there for me yet.

This would be impossible for me to attempt, as I need VMware on a daily basis. The iPad and iPhone are used daily as well, but the workhorse is my MBP.

If you want full access to icloud features, you can't go all-iOS. Among other features, Apple inexplicably doesn't give you access to icloud email filter rules from iOS devices; you have to use a pc or mac browser....

Only for casual / meetings at work. But for Day 2 Day jobs need my mac. A lot of the Remote Access apps that need Java / Active X ( windows in VM ) iPad wouldn't be able to do

No - Kindle is a better reader

We have several iPhones and iPads between us but honestly, Kindles are way better for reading.

My PC is a custom built unit. Mainly because it's far less expensive and I have it set up including software already to go.

As time goes on - after the advent of iOS5 - I've increasingly added apps that are office related. At this point, there is a tremendous capability - the iWork series, PDF creaters/readers, VueScan (a great app!), the Splashtop series, iDraw, Photoshop mobile, Snapseed, Notability, Print n Share (fills in the gaps for Airprint), Dragon, Goodreader, etc. Using DropBox could enable the file system as described above. Promising.

I have the Logitech Zagg keyboard and LOVE it! Makes all the difference when when it comes to typing long documents - and general input. Also forms a protective lightweight case when not in use.

I, too, do graphics using Creative Suite programs and THOSE have to have a full-blown computer. The other things that still make a PC/Mac necessary include USB capability, DVD reader/player (this may become obsolete, though, as streaming increases), and direct access to files (without jailbreaking) that you can organize.

Otherwise, though, it's getting very close to Steve Jobs' prediction of "no computers."

I use my iPad as my main computer, for school and everything. However, I use my moms computer to manage music and such. My computer broke and I cannot afford a new one at the moment, so it has been about 4 months just using my iPod touch and my iPad as my computers. To be honest, I get more done on my iPad then on my computer. I would recommend getting a smart cover, (I also have the incipio smart feather on my iPad), an airprint capable printer, and getting a Bluetooth keyboard. Other then that, I love using my iPad as my computer! :apple:

for the month of February I was going to go all iOS all iPad and iPhone. It only took one week till I cracked. For me, the iPad is just basic web browsing, basic music, basic email, and basic YouTube. There is just to much with music and video I cannot do on the iPad. Great for basic computing!

in about 5ish years from now I can see this being a real possibility. Right now I just can't store all my stuff on to an iPad and there are still limitation of the iPad, even for home use. I can see the cloud being a big part of iPads future for the storage neg. iPad still has some big evolving to do before I'll even consider it replacing a computer.

well said. It would be nice to run OSX Lion on the iPad without using a remote desktop app too.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

I have started to travel light to meetings with just my iPad, but there's no way I could get away with just an iPad all the time

I could hypothetically do it, but I'd have to SSH into a school machine to work with files. And thats a bit of a pain. And I also can't upload anything to my school's assignment submission system with iOS, so I need a computer, or an Android tablet.

eh, i can do pretty much everything i need to from my iPhone 4s
being a recent convert from pc and android, i find that the combo of the iPhone and my mba 13 is a complete solution for my needs.. understanding that everyones needs are different. but after a month in this set up i have no regrets about drowning the droid and teaching the vaio how to fly negating to teach it how to land was an oversight but oh well... :D:apple::D
