Have you met any celebrities?

Living in New York City, spotting celebrities in the street is kind of like shooting fish in a barrel. I don't bother speaking with them, generally, unless we're kind of lingering in the same place. For example, I briefly spoke with John Hodgman while we were waiting in line for coffee.
I went to college with Maya Rudolph and Miranda July. The former was just as nice and funny and down to earth as you'd expect; the latter was just as much from outer space as you'd expect, but in an environment full of people who talked non-stop about their big artistic dreams, she was the one person who I could see the ambition in to actually go out and execute on all her ideas. And she did.

I was in Pittsburgh to visit my family, and saw Matthew Broderick when they were filming Inspector Gadget quite a few years ago. Didn't talk to him, but I saw him. That's about it.
I'd love to, but it gives away where I work currently, and I'm not even sure if I'm "allowed" to publicize that.
It's a highly-rated television production. Not sure how many clues I can give without making it obvious.
While in college, I worked at this theater on campus that routinely had acclaimed shows. During one of the shows, many celebrities came to watch and I helped them either with their ticket, directions or seat. Some of those I've somewhat "met" are Joe Pesci (who actually yelled at me since I was closing the door to the theater since the intermission was over), Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, and a bunch of others that I can't remember right now. Also, I met Neve Campbell and we actually had a conversation since she was visiting the cast of the show during dress rehearsals. John Cusack was also with her, but he didn't talk much but he was nice.
Last one I can remember meeting is Eliza Dushku. It was during lunch time at this little cafe in Los Feliz/Silverlake called The Alcove. Anyway, I came up to her and introduced myself, I told her that it sucked "Dollhouse" was cancelled and she agreed. Though, I think she wasn't a fan of the comment I said since she had this look on her face as she said "well it sucks for me, too".

If I had to choose a Georgia-based television personality to fist bump, it would be Alton Brown.
Hmmmm.... Georgia, does that mean that they were born in Georgia and that "they" is actually "she".... If that's the case, I am going to guess Nancy Grace.
I finally got to meet Comic book icon Stan Lee, in London last month.

Reading this thread, occasionally, I am rather curious to know what criterion is used to define the term "celebrity'. Is it someone well known? Or simply someone well known in certain specific fields? Or is a celebrity - in the context of a thread such as this - merely someone who is famous, irrespective of how they came by that fame?
I have met (and interviewed) an individual who won the Nobel Peace Prize, and have met others who had won the Nobel Prize for Literature, but none of them would be described in any way as a 'celebrity' as I understand the term.
Likewise, I have met individuals who have written books which are rather well known and highly regarded, but the writers in question lead lives of blessed anonymity.
Indeed, for that matter, I have met a number of fascinating political leaders, some of whom are very well known; one of them might indeed be described as something of a 'celebrity', but most of the ones I have met, again, would not.
So, what exactly is a 'celebrity' as the term is understood here?

There's nothing official about a Community Discussion thread, but I suggest that we consider "celebrity" to mean any of these:
- someone you've met who many other forum members will have heard of, and will know what they are known for
- people you've met who are well-known in their (and perhaps your) particular field
- people you've met who are significant in some way, even if their name isn't known
- people who you were particularly thrilled to meet
For example, I've boasted about meeting Randy Quaid (group 1), but I was more thrilled to have once met computer scientist Grace Murray Hopper (group 2). Sorry Randy.
I mentioned meeting the world record holder for fast drumming. That's group 3.
From time to time I have been thrilled to meet some very cool MacRumors members, who I previously knew only in the forums, but that might not pass the "other forum members might be interested in hearing about it" test!

Reading the thread, I was struck by the whole notion of what we understand by 'celebrity', especially, as - given that I am not from the US and have never lived there (and sports and popular TV programmes do not, as a rule, hold much interest for me) - many of those whose names graced these pages are completely unknown to me.
Your not alone in that. Even if its somebody from a show I might have seen, I don't usually know their name. I don't really believe in celebritism.
My husband's cousin lived in LA and has tons of hilarious stories about celebs he saw or met there. Michigan is most assuredly NOT the place to meet celebrities ... I think the only one I've ever met is our last governor (Jennifer Granholm), and I'm not sure politicians even count, really
Well, in the real life of the USA at least, politicians definitely matter. They pass the laws and orders by which we all manage (or fail) to live together in the good and the bad times.
Whether they count as celebrities is an interesting question. TV ads plus the addiction some of them have for the camera do seem to make sure we know who they are. But probably most of us dont know much about what they do for a living, in any detail.
A lot of us could rattle off names of a dozen movies a famous Hollywood actor has played in. Very few of us could name even two pieces of legislation our own Congressman has authored or co-sponsored.
So by that standard, maybe its true that politicians dont count. I'm not sure that speaks well to our sense of what matters.

met james franco while he was filming a movie close to my hometown. was standing with a few friends and they break for lunch. franco walks right by us bu himself. turns and asks if we want a picture? he took a pic with each of us. super nice guy
met rodney crowell when i was like 9 yrs old and he was on tour. he was throwing baseball with his someone in his band. he let me wear his glove and he talked with me and my parents for a bit. was a great experience
met a bunch of Saints players at training camp. all were great. most didnt say much just signed. drew brees signed pretty much every practice. coach payton was super nice also
went to a 76ers game when chris webber played for them. it was in memphis. i had on a tshirt that said "got webber". during warmups i screamed "cwebb!!" he glanced over and i could tell he was squinting his eyes tryin to read my shirt. he sorta grinned but looked mostly confused and probablt wasnt sure what my shirt said
said hey to tim blake nelson while he took a lunch break on a film. he nodded and said hi but i could tell he was still a bit in character so i didnt pursue a conversation
