Exactly.

If I had some spare cash laying around right now (I don't), I'd probably have a setup just like yours, other than the Macbook Pro. I use my iPad Pro for all podcasting now, so I don't need a laptop for that purpose, but I would love to just have a stationary iMac for the couple things where I HAVE to have a Mac and then my 10.5 Pro for the rest of my stuff.

Right now I have a Macbook Air (supplied by my employer) that mostly gets used as my desktop machine, and I only need it for conference call type stuff for work. I would love if they would switch it out with an iMac for me. Maybe next time I'm due for a switch. I have actually never loved laptops, but I am completely infatuated with my iPad Pro.

To be fair I use the MacBook Pro mainly for writing yes I could use my iMac but typing for some reason feels much better on the MacBook Pro and because I do it for hours a day (I'm a writer) it needs to be comfortable, Plus I do play the odd game (old ones like Theme Hospital and so on), however I feel that the iMac is better for editing, the iPad Pro is great for touch editing in iMovie but the iMac is much better for precise editing in Final Cut X. That's why I think each device has its own use, it helps that I'm an Apple fan also I won't deny that :)

Have you ever tried Ferrite for iOS for podcasting? I use it to record my local track and to pull in all my other tracks for syncing and publishing. I even edit tracks with my Pencil when I need to do splits or move chunks of stuff around. It's really nice. I use an Apogee Mic with Lightning cable for the recording part.

I hadn't heard of that, I'll give it a look. I use voice record at the moment and then edit in iMovie. I use Final Cut X for some YouTube videos.

Whatever setup you end up with, each device should be able to adequately satisfy a function important to you that none of your other devices can.

any of you have both the retina macbook and an ipad pro 9.7 or 10.5?

does it makes sense?

i use them for really easy tasks....
Not really adding anything new to the conversation here, but yah, definitely. I have a 12" MacBook & an iPad mini 4. I had a full sized iPad 4 before the mini & my next iPad will be the 10.5" one, but I won't be upgrading the iPad for quite some time. I like having both because, although they do much the same thing, I find each one to be better for certain times/ tasks. I also like having both as the macbook's screen is a little bit small for displaying two things at once (If I'm looking at my bank's website at the same time I'm working in Quicken for example. I can fire up the iPad and use that as a second display. If it's something where I need both screens but for two Mac only apps, then I fire up AirDisplay and use the iPad as a secondary display.

Aside from that, I find the MacBook easier to navigate and quicker to use, but when I travel, I take the iPad and if I'm not sitting at a desk or table, I will generally grab the iPad as it's easier to use in those cases. Also, for things like reading documents, the iPad is better for me.

As I'm writing this, I realize just how much I make use of Apple's continuity features and really appreciate how everything works on nearly every device. I think having both an iPad and a MacBook makes perfect sense.

Interesting question. I have both the 9.7 iPP and rMB and I’m trying to justify keeping both. With iOS 11, its amazing how much functionality iOS has now even if its just for personal use.

I have a work issued Dell laptop and as much as I don’t like Windows, it works for any business related function I may need. With iCloud.com available in almost any bowser, printing isn’t an issue and having a keyboard with my 9.7 (Magic keyboard), personal use is actually pleasant w/ the new multitasking features of iOS 11.

Now selling both and getting a maxed iPP 12.9 is a consideration but something is holding me back. Hmmmmm.....

Update: I bit the bullet and sold my MacBook. I added the 9.7 Smart Keyboard. So far so good...

I have a 15" MBP and an IPP, I think having both makes sense, because, the laptop provides the ability to run certain apps that require mice, or features that the IPP lacks. When I was traveling earlier this month, I took both and I was glad I did.
