i cant hear my PSU at all. all i hear is the case fan and the occasional hard drive spin up when i'm using one of them after a sleep. i can also hear the fan on the GPU when i'm gaming.

but there's a specifically troubling whirl in yours that sounds like bad bearings.

Either way.. this Mac Pro will be gone by Monday / Tuesday (UPS are picking it up) and she put a new one on high priority and "Fast Ship EMEA", she said it should arrive within 1 week or so. I just hope Foxhound... eerrr.. Foxconn won't be rushed to assemble yet another faulty Mac Pro, otherwise I'll go Solid Snake on their asses  :D

I hope it gets worked out for you! As I've mentioned to you before, I know what it's like to obsess about this kind of thing. If you think it's definitely not right, though, there's no reason why you shouldn't get it taken care of! I wonder how many different factories these are coming out of and if that's making a difference.

I'm hoping your replacement is problem-free!

It is normal though when you put the pro to sleep and get that (spark sounding) click right?

It was one of the first questions in this thread. It seems to be normal (?) I have a 'BRR sound' after pressing the power button and the click sound when putting it asleep. It does sound kind of worrying (never heard a pc make those sounds), but this is what people said:

I think mine does that too. Along with the click.

Though I don't have the 2010 Mac Pro.

Just noticed it does it when going to sleep / waking up as well. Does everybody else get this sound?

Yes, my 2009 MP also makes this sound.

At the beginning I was assuming it was a fault since it sounds kind of 'crackle-ish' and I also got the buzzing power supply..

Oh I thought you were talking about an electrical crackle sound from the power supply or something.

Every Mac I've ever used has made those sounds. To me, that's the sound of a Mac that's healthy and happy.

Yeah, at the beginning I thought the buzzing power supply and the crackle/click when starting/sleeping the mac pro were related, but it seems that the starting/sleeping sound is normal (as you and others have noted), but the buzzing power supply is not.

I definitely don't get any buzzing. Did you read the other thread, though (I think it's davelanger's) about unplugging a lamp that's on the same electrical circuit? I wonder if you're having a similar issue.

I did, but mine does it even when nothing else is connected or when I connect the mac pro to a socket in a different room.

Hi,

I just received my replacement Mac Pro and also added an APC Line R power conditioner to the mix to make sure the problem isn't my power.. but the power supply buzzes on this one, too. :(

Am I crazy, unlucky or is this just normal?
Please everyone hold your head against the power supply of your Mac Pro and report back if you hear any buzzing :D lol

Mine does the same thing. It's quite annoying. My 2 weeks still haven't passed and I am thinking of returning it. I have already gotten my PSU replaced, the new one makes the same sounds....
