But did you try with downloaded videos and no connection or just streaming?
I tried streaming, and I tried downloaded videos with a live internet connection and downloaded videos with no internet connection. All three scenarios worked for me.

That is weird, as it contradicts the multiple reports I've read online when it comes to offline videos.

I appreciate your input anyhow.

for the sake of anyone viewing this in the future, netflix does work through the official HMDI adapter, at least on iOS 11. I just tested it today and it played fine. I know that doens't answer the op's question directly, but in case someone searches this topic, it may help.
Hi! Future person here viewing your helpful post! Can you please send me the link or post which device you bought? There are so many and don’t know which one would work? Thank you!!

I bought apples official lightning to hdmi adapter. I’m on my phone now and don’t know if links will work, but if you go to apples website and click on the shop button, the filter to iPhone or iPad accessories and find the lightning to hdmi adapter that is made by Apple, that’s the one. It is called the lightning digital av adapter.

I tried posting in the link, not site if it will work or not: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/...e=97&fs=f=adapter-apple&fh=458e%2B45b0%2B3214
