My dad was at the Apple Store last night (obviously I'm not going to say which one) and supposedly one of the employees said to my dad that the new iMacs are coming out in September, but he wasn't supposed to tell anyone.

I'm still leaning towards an early August release myself, but I just thought I'd let you know this little tidbit of a rumor. :)

From what I understand, apple store employees get virtually no advanced notice of future products.

that is true, this sounds like an educted guess on the employees part, but really if they were going to wait until september it seems like they would do it when leopard is shipping.

I'm assuming this employee is just like you and me... they probably visit MacRumors and other rumor sites.

I have a nephew who works at a store - absolutely true. They know as much (or less) than most people on this board about future products.

They're running that free iPod for students promotion until September 16, 2007 so I'd almost be shocked if Apple released new iMacs before that promo runs out.

If THIS IS TRUE MY PREDICTIONS ARE RIGHT!! iMacs at PARIS EXPO WOOHOO!!

What is there to WOOHOO about? I am so sick of waiting I am going to give it until next Tuesday, and if there is nothing new I will just order a 20" imac and avoid Apple sites for a few months. This endless waiting is silly.

It's better if a next gen iMac is released it can't be released with a website update can it? it has to be done the Jobs way...

But employees aren't supposed to "frequent" such sites!:eek::p

I don't think there's anything that expressly prohibits visiting Mac rumour sites. But.. if someone inside Apple spilt the beans about a new product, you probably wouldn't really want to have macrumors, appleinsider etc. in your internet history!

I think that it is ok for a regular Apple Store employee to visit/read/maybe even post in this site. As long as s/he tells no one and never says anything about any possible products for launch. Or even mentions on this site that they work for Apple.

They're not supposed to post on them regarding Apple products or policy, but nothing's stopping them from reading.

That's true. Someone I met online works at the Apple Store in Regent Street, London (He met Steve Jobs the other week, the lucky little...!). There have been many times in the past where I've started a conversation about an article on MacRumors, and he's responded to it. They ARE allowed to view these sites but not allowed to post anything on them about Apple... well, give any Apple "Secrets"* away, or let people know that they work for Apple.

(*Apple Store employees know almost nothing about Apple's future products. In fact, I have even asked my friend when new iMacs were coming, and he just gave me a guess. No facts.)

Yeah, they don't know squat when it comes to upcoming product...trust me. I used to be one. He and his buddies probably had just read it on MacRumors or Think Secret in the back room now he's risking his job by disseminating that to potential customers, to which I say..."way to go there slick".

I was in an Apple store yesterday, and was chatting with 3 of the kids in there... None of them had any idea when the iMac was coming and one even said, "Oh, they're going to change it"?

think we are talking anytime now literally

as i mentioned in another thread on here, retailers are out or running very low on stock of imacs ie amazon uk are at 1-3 weeks for imacs now, and i read on here somewhere that there was no imacs in apples refurb store today.

late july is definately definately a possibility, early aug absolute latest in my opinion (unless within next week availability shoots back up again)

imacs have been popping in and out of the refurb store for the last week (UK). Not sure what to read in to it. Although there are no MBs at all. Maybe because nobody returns them because they are so good!

I find that rumours make the wait easier since at least there's something to read about it.
The old Apple store employee claim is pretty iffy, though.

Yeah I agree w/ the rest...

It's a common guess since the student iPod deal ends on Sept, MacWorld is in Sept, and the g5 iMacs were released in Sept. (?).

But I think he/she also reads MacRumors on his breaks ... lol... I can imagine a giant group of employees on their break surrounding a Intel iMac and look at the iMac section of MacRumors...

Bah I hate the wait... There's one problem with the July - August release though , -> Apple has never (never) released a mac computer with new design without showing it on a presentation. I do not think there's a big chance that they will just update the webpage for this one... iMac is too special.

The positive thing is that it's only 2 month to september

I remember people suggesting that they'd announce an event for Leopard when it kept getting later and later.
Maybe they will actually hold one for the iMac soon rather than relying on the Paris Expo.
