Do Apple store employees work on commission? If so, wouldn't it make sense for them to allow folks to believe a release is farther off than it actually is in order to sell computers today to the impatient rather than have them wait for the update?

the nexus of the universe
no commission.

as a former employee of :apple:, i can verify that employees know nothing about product releases unless apple has officially released a product. apple keeps everything confidential, even the most basic things about their business. if an employee makes any claim, they are just throwing out guesses, something they are forbidden from doing by their contract.

when i read "heard from an apple employee....." all i read is "i have know clue how to deal with waiting any longer, and this guy with an apple shirt had nothing to say when i was asking him about new imacs so he just threw out a random time to get me to stop harassing him about something he clearly had no knowledge of."

People working for apple would have no clue as when products come out. If they did, then these rumors wouldn't happen because we would all know from someone asking an apple employee.

My dad was at the Apple Store last night (obviously I'm not going to say which one) and supposedly one of the employees said to my dad that the new iMacs are coming out in September, but he wasn't supposed to tell anyone.

what other people said are true, Apple employee's don't get any information ahead of time. and they're not supposed to spread rumors ie post on rumors forums.

But they can read them... just not contribute to them.

ps. I don't think ANYONE in the retail side of Apple really know when the imacs are coming out.

They're running that free iPod for students promotion until September 16, 2007 so I'd almost be shocked if Apple released new iMacs before that promo runs out.

Yes, but the promo this year only specifies the iPod models in the promo. The computers are not specified this year, unlike in the past.
