To ALL the kind folks here --

My base 21.5 i3 arrives today (my first Mac). I read a lot about 'future proof' and 'lasting longer'. My question is if all I'll be using my Mac for is the web, Office, Quicken, NO games (ok, occasional online bridge), some very minor Photoshop work (crop, contrast, etc), should it matter to me?

My computer use is also not going to change in the future. I saved $500 over the i5. The way I look at it is in about 5 years I'll buy a new one, so would not 'lasting longer' become a moot point in my case.

I was beginning to have a slight buyer's remorse, but is my justification not correct?

Thank you.

Well, I've only logged in to see if Hellhammer has come back to me on if I should missionary or doggy with my girlfriend later. As he's been too busy to reply, I'll help here instead :)

Basically, the i3 will be fine, you'll not notice much, if any, difference and your upgrade time will be dictated by the machine either dying or a wish to do something new/update a program, rather than the machine being too slow.

Stick with what you have and put the $500 to that upgrade in 5 years time

Agree, for what you wish to use it for save the money, nothing to regret you wouldnt notice the difference.

Also, david let me know his opinion is in regards to that, ill have to take the opinion onboard.

....anyway, its good to have a member like himself on the boards. Balances out the ignorance!

exactly, no need for hellhammer haters!;)

expect a reply from hellhammer shortly ;) his beloved will be around soon :D

LOL, how do you know? :p Is there still need for me in here?

Well, back to the original question. So, the i3 is probable just fine but if your photoshopping is getting more intensive, the i5 should be worth it. It's little better in gaming as well. Both support HT so they have 4 virtual cores.

Photoshop benchmarks
Gaming benchmarks

And that's for i5-661 which is 266MHz slower so i5-680 is even faster. If someone else has questions, go ahead, I'm back now. ;)

What's the best way to make cheese on toast? Should I toast one side of the bread before putting the cheese on the other, or toast both sides then add the cheese? And would you recommend adding some brown sauce before putting it under the grill? :)

And would you butter the bread/toast on the side you're putting the cheese on first?

i just had toast then. i made it the cheating way (under the grill).

toast 1 side, flip, toast other side (lightly) then put cheese on this side, melt cheese. eat.

You need to buy a pair NVIDIA GTX 480 and put them inside your PC if you have one. Then give them some OC and run FurMark while the toast is between them :D That's the only way to make a good toast. If I was at work I could try that as I'm starving :p

Well, I shall ask this to be closed because this is starting to go little offtopic and ask OP to use PM if he's really interested about my opinion
