slightly off topic, but when i was installing my additional 6GB of ram into my G5, i had the same deal. i REALLY had to push it in, i was afraid to push harder, but i had to haha! and yes. my hands were actually pretty sore after wards, because my fingers were all banged up n what not lol.

glad you got yours sorted out, virus! ( it was incredibly easy to replace the ram in my powerbook for some reason, no effort involved whatsoever lol. )

the same exact thing happened to me. trust me, your ram ISNT in all the way. push it all the way in, you'll hear it click. once the ram is in your computer will boot up. i thought my macbook was broke and was one minute away from taking it to the mac genius..

same thing happened to me also. Try again diamondg14. It takes an alarming amount of force, way more than you think it should.

I have probably tried both the original ram and the ram I bought, collectively 6 times now, and really made sure it is going in is far as it can. My fingers hurt a little and I know I am using enough force, because I am a pretty strong guy and I do not think I can push any harder. It looks like I will have to plead my case to some Apple Genius' which sucks cause the nearest store is 2 hours away.

I last night replaced the Ram with 2 1-GB sticks of ram and it seemed a little tougher than most were making it seem but I booted up and all seemed fine. I then after about 10 minutes of use kept getting spinning beach ball syndrome and had to relaunch finder a few times and restart. After a couple restarts it was not working right so I tried re-inserting the RAM and re-booting and I am now at a point where I cannot get the Macbook to start-up. Nothing, no chime, not blue screen just nothing. Please help! What have I done.

I am really pretty sure that the Ram is in all the way, I have really really put some pressure on it to make sure it was tight. I have re-tried the original ram and the 1 Gig sticks. Does anyone have any other hints/ideas.
Which RAM, specifically, did you get, and from where?

I had a similar experience. The RAM takes a good amount of effort to seat correctly. I thought I was going to break the laptop before ever getting the chance to boot it up.

I had the exact same problem. I even took off the foam to make the L-shaped bar fit back in its slot. I was also scared to break my MacBook in some way.

My included 2x256MB ones are single sided and fit very easily all the way in. The 2x512MB double sided ones I just put in were nearly impossible to get in there. It looks like they designed the slots for single sided instead of double sided RAM, idiots. Even pushing as hard as I could the 512MB ones are not completely flush like the 256MB ones were. Works fine, but still annoying.

If you think doing this RAM is bad, you should stay away from putting a ROM into a beige G3. The logic board was flexing quite a bit when I did mine. Must have been almost half an inch on center

BTW, anyone know how to tell if it is running in dual channel mode? System Profiler doesn't seem to indicate this.

Well, sounds like you either had a coincidental computer failure right after replacing the RAM, or you fried it with static.

If it's the former, you're fine under warranty. If it's the latter, Apple probably can't tell and you're still fine, but I'd be a little nervous anyway.

Bummer, regardless.

DiamondG14, I have the same RAM and it is a VERY tight fit. In fact, when I went to remove it, it tried to come out at an angle (right edge before left edge) and I had to gently nudge the left side with a small flat screwdriver to get it to slide out.

Otherwise, works great when you get it in there.

I'm afraid I broke my car.

I wanted to see how easy it was to smash it up, so I ran it into a wall... everything went fine. Then I tried to drive it again, and IT DIDN'T WORK!? What!??!?

You make it so easy to piss people off.

HOW THE HELL DOES THAT EFFING HELP THE SITUATION?

GRRRRRRR.

Kid you've got balls to attempt the hard drive less than one week after purchasing your MB. I commend you.

On that note, doesn't replacing the hard drive yourself void the warranty?
