Did you try a wired USB keyboard (or just a wired mouse), just to see if THAT works (showing that the USB ports are working for I/O devices)
hi, yes a wired keyboard works.....typing this with it, so what does this mean? data transfer is working and it looks like i have a software issue stopping the T7 being recognised? o_O

Could you explain this more clearly?

Bad cable on the disk, most likely. Replace the cable.

yes i want to try one, my USB sockets have failed reading data and i need to plug in an external SSD so my thought was to try the thunderbolt ports in hope they would work.
LaCie makes a TB1/2 enclosure that can take a SATA drive. I bought one off eBay and put a SSD in it and it gets about 350 R/W's which is enough for me to boot off of on my 2011 27" and sometimes my 2013 21.5". WD made a dual drive TB2 SATA enclosure which can be found on eBay sometimes. I took out the platters and put 1 TB SSD's in it and it's a nice alternative as well but I also only get about 350 R/W's. A NVMe enclosure with a TB2 adapter while more expensive can net R/W's of 800ish and is much more preferred for booting for me.

Just my experience with TB booting on my machines.

ive tried multiple cables and, originally had a WD external hard drive as a back time machine, this failed or so i thought but its the usb's have have stopped data transfer, flash drives, T7, external hard drive, SD card adapter etc have all stopped working. deffinalty not a cable issue.
not sure how to explain....not very computer savvy! what ever i plug in to the usb's they always have power but the mac doesn't acknowledge it (no device shows on Disc Utility or in finder) but it does show in terminal.

i think this may be my next attempt, what worries me is the USB issue will it still be there or will the new drive fix it? o_O

Your T7 may show as a USB device (the ioreg command), but it does NOT show with the command diskutil list, which would show how the device is set up for use as a storage device. Your Mac appears to ignore USB storage, and apparently any USB storage.
I suspect that even if you try a device with a thunderbolt to USB adapter, that will also not show any storage on USB - even with an adapter, it still is ultimately a USB device, and the system should see it as such (I think).
As the USB bus appears to work, it could simply be a software problem with how your Mac recognizes USB storage.
I would suggest that you try a reinstall of your macOS, through your recovery system.
I would suggest that you NOT leave any USB device attached during this system reload -- nothing plugged in to any USB port.
Reboot to command-r, and choose to reinstall macOS. Should take about 30 minutes or so. That will reload the system files, and complete a reinstall, and you will boot back into your system.
Try the T7 after that reload of the system.
Works now? You should be good to go.
Nothing yet? try at least one more USB storage device. Still nothing? Then most likely a failure of the chipset on your logic board.

In your first post, you stated that the fusion part of your drive has failed. Maybe that failed component is affecting anything else that attempts to act like disk storage.

You may need to take the computer in for service, to remove failed components.

you're probably right and this was my initial thoughts, but being a late 2015 its probably not worth spending too much on? i will buy a new one shortly.......heard on the grape one ie this forum that there may be new machines out soon so i want to resurrect this even if it means i take it apart myself and fill the gap

I think you should take it in anyway, and see what they might charge to do a diagnostic on it. Then you'd know more details about what's wrong with it. They might not charge anything for diagnostics.

If you later decide to act on the results, at least you'll have higher confidence about what broke.

OP:

If the USB ports are no longer functional, and...
- they can't be revived using an "SMC reset",
and
- they can't be revived by re-installing the OS,
then
...it's probably time to give up on that Mac and start shopping for a replacement.

I can't see ANY Mac without functioning USB ports to be very functional in day-to-day usage (speaking only for myself)...
