Do you think the 40mm would look tad small for me? I don’t want it to look like a kids watch and at the same time I don’t want the 44mm to look insanely big on me. I tried using the apple store’s casing comparison and the 44mm looks insanely big on my arm lol

if you are like me and want the big screen just get the 44mm

Well my opinion isn't the one that counts but I think the 42mm looks great. If I were in your position, I'd think about screen size-- as in how much screen you want to view. Do you ever wish you could see more screen in your 42? If you're content with how much content you can view on your 42, then maybe the 40 will be a better choice.

Something else to think about is that your current bands for 42 will fit a 44. If you go to a 40, you'll need to get new ones.

Not trying to sway your opinion one way or another but hopefully giving you things to think about :) Let us know what you end up going with and I'd love to read feedback on how you like the Series 4. I've really, really enjoyed Series 4 and even coming from Series 2 I'd consider it a significant and worthwhile upgrade.

Here are a few shots of my 42 and 44 side by side just so you can get an idea of how much difference there is in the size of screen.

thank you so much for the pictures! it kinda look like the 44mm is not so big compare from the 42 but the size difference is definitely there. I know, so far I have 3 bands. 2 original from apple and 1 from amazon. I am planning on selling my series 3 and I guess the bands will have to go too since I've decided to go with the 40mm! I just feel like I've had the 42mm for the past years since I've had an Apple Watch I would like something a bit different. and also on 42mm I felt content with the screen size so I guess with the 40mm it would be okay-ish?

Then you have no choise! 40 mm is the only right way to go.

I think 44mm is too big for almost anyone if you don't want to look like a geek wearing a device from Star Trek on the wrist (excepting those who has XXL wrist size).

Me personally wearing 40mm Apple Watch 4 (my wrist size is about 17cm).

would it be okay if you post a picture of your arm wearing the 40mm? I really want to make sure I'm heading on the right path lol!

I have a smaller wrist for a guy.

42 vs 44 is not a huge difference due to the more rounded casing.

Screen size is a huge difference.

With watches a lot depends on the band you are using. With case integrated bands like the sport band, the band curves smoothly away from the watch face, reducing the effect of a large watch. In effect it wears like a large bangle. If you put the same watch on a standard strap, then the strap hangs straight down off the end of the watch case if you have a smaller wrist, making at large watch look gigantic.

yes I agree! I took a picture of my series 3 42mm while I'm wearing it with different bands and they really affect how the watch looks. the regular sports band made it bigger and the loop one made it look like its not so big. anyway, I hope I'm making the right decision aiming for the 40mm! :/

44mm would look perfect on your wrist.

Sure, no problem! So, my wrist size is about 17cm and 40mm looks like a normal watch (not a gadget on the wrist):

I took some more photos for you today. So, again 40mm on my ~17cm wrist:

I'm pretty sure I could wear 44mm without a problem but I want my AW looks like a watch and not like a smart device (little iPhone).

Yep, my wrist is nearly exactly like yours, and I still prefer the 38/40 over the bigger models. As you say, they blend in more like a "normal" watch, and the larger screen really doesn't add much for me in terms of usability.

I think you may have gotten more confused by posting here lol...

Anyway, I have a relatively small wrist (160mm) for a guy and I went with the 40mm as well... Have fun shopping for the new watch!

I have a 6.5 wrist (16.5cm), 42 and 44 work fine for me with the right band, and I’m very much against the whole big men’s watch thing.

I showed my wife both the 40 and 44 at on my wrist at the apple store and she definitely preferred the larger one.

I was going to go with the 40 until I actually saw it on my wrist.

Considering I used to wear a rubber bumper on my 42, the 44 is actually visually smaller than what I was wearing before.

I got the 40mm SS gold! I got lucky there was an available one to where I live! This watch is so fast and beautiful!! It is definitely worth the upgrade!!!! I think I made the right choice with the 40mm. The people I’ve asked in the store said the 44mm looked big on me
