Hey, I'm thinking about doing the same, is it working so far? No hibernation problems? Also which adapter are you using?
Thanks!!

Hi jordi,

Everything is working perfectly fine, even better than with the original SSD.
I am not aware of any hibernation problems.

The adapter I used looks like the one in the picture attached, and you can easily find them on ebay Je st searching for « Nvme SSD Macbook Pro A1708 adapter ».
I think at the bottom of this very page there are already ads for an equivalent product 🙂

Hi everyone, I bought the adapter few days ago and mounted a Sabrent 2242 1Tb. I installed O.S but I noticed that my macbook in sleep / hibernation mode continues to drain the battery (15% overnight). Furthermore, with the power cable inserted, it's not able to load the disc, displaying a folder with a question mark. Someone had the same?

I had the same on macbook pro 13 2015 with non-apple nvme with adapter, notebook was with power cable inserted, lid closed but fan worked.
It was only once maybe month ago. Now all works normal. Will try to repeat the problem

Hi everyone!
Thanks a LOTTTT for your help and I really hope someone has tried that before me with success !! 😅😅😅

Meantime, in a galaxy far, far away....

Hello guys,
I've just discovered this awesome upgrading trick. I'm thinking about doing it !

@pskplt : Have you encountered any problems so far ? No issue(s) ?
@ All : I'm using Adobe Creative Cloud to edit photos & videos everyday (Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Lightroom). Do you think the Sabrent 2TB can handle it ?

Thanks

I am having the exact same issues, same adaptor and same sabrent drive :(

...
I have been working for 2 weeks flawlessly on the laptop.
The only thing is the longer boot time when opening (28s) but I guess it has to scan 2TB worth of memory instead of 128GB ?
...
Peace ✌

In case you have not figured it out, the long delay at power on is because your startup drive is not assigned correctly in system preferences. I found this out myself recently when I upgraded the SSD in my MBP mid-2015. Everything worked, but there was a long delay (black screen) between the chime and when the Apple logo appeared.

I went into System Preferences and then Startup Disk and clicked the UNLOCK then clicked on my startup drive and rebooted. VOILA! Almost instant boot after chime.

Hope this helps.

Sad news - I am expecting my adaptor and Sabrent 1Tb drive any day now - I had high hopes this would be a fix to render my 128Gb SSD a thing of the past. Someone on YouTube said I should get a WD SN520 (2242) as this has been found to have only slight battery drain when in sleep mode.
I hope someone perseveres with the Sabrent 1TB and comes up with a solution........

Have you attempted any other type of setup?

@Morula No, unfortunately I just gave up and returned the sabrent drive. This is my work laptop and didn't want to risk any further issues.

Be aware.
Good day. I installed this adapter and 1TB ssd from sabrent. Battery loses its charge by 30% overnight when the laptop lid is closed. I haven't found a solution to this problem. Unfortunately, after installing this adapter and ssd, apple magic is disappears.

Im having a problem with my sabrent rocket 512, if I try to boot MacBook with the charger plugged in (shutdown MacBook with charger and after that turn it on again with charger) my MacBook don't detect ssd if I do this. In battery it works well...
Any fix for this boot problem?

In sleep mode (8 hours) it drains like 10% battery but for me that's ok.

I have the same problem with the power cable connected... have you found a fix for this?
I know this is an older thread but I came upon this "fix" on an eBay listing:

In terminal enter:

sudo pmset hibernatemode 0 standby 0

I was hoping someone with a Sabrent ssd could try this fix before I pull the trigger on a aftermarket ssd.

Thanks!

Does the battery drain issue only occur with the Sabrent SSD or is it the same with others (like Samsung)?

Because I have the Sabrent too and this battery drain is really going on my nerves. Will switching to Samsung do the trick?

I fixed my issue. I installed macOS HighSierra. But I think if I used original ssd, I had better performance on battery
