Hunt is over :)

Found processor board with original quad core processor for $180 shipped on ebay. It arrived today, transferred my ram and everything is up an drunning. OSX even restored my open apps at the time of the crash :)

Now going to attempt to fix the board i have and see if it works

Well done

The evidence suggests that only a solder reball replacing the northbridge chip will fix that. You're looking at close to 100 bucks if the new chip is really cheap.

I would search on eBay for completed and sold broken processor boards, describe the fault and sell it at the average price, minus the last clip and northbridge heatsink for your spares bin.

Or throw it in the recycling if they don't sell

I'm still hoping that if i apply heatsync properly it will work. or maybe its fried. cheap enough to try, specially since my mac is back in working order

Working it would have booted with an overheat shut off when it cooked. Yours is dead - no harm having a punt at it, though I would be taking the other clip off really carefully for a spare if it was mine
