This is epic. Why an AU eBay while the item is in Florida? Stolen?

Looks suspect to me, and a possible eBay account been hacked. They have already sold 9, with over 10 left for sale, Mmmmm

An Ozzie power seller might want to avail himself of the refurb deals available to US Apple customers, and he might be able to get a deeper discount than a regular US retail customer who is only buying one unit.

My bet is that people who bought from him would be getting white boxes.

Well I did click the "Buy now" button. But hadn't paid for it. Now the item is gone. Not even showing up in my "Awaiting payment" screen on my account.

Whats up with that? I guess it was a scam indeed.

Maybe. Not absolutely. If questions arose on several forums the way that they arose here, then eBay would have moved aggressively and rather quickly.

Happens all the time. I'd say there's still a better than even chance that it was legitimate, but everybody who was suspicious was correct to be suspicious.

If his account was hacked, we'll probably know rather soon.

SCAM :)

I just received this:

I told him I wanted to do a bank transfer and see if he falls in the trap (most likely not)

Not very good English for somebody in Oz !!

Sorry George but your comment was quite silly, seriously.
But for your information not all Australian are native from Australia. I was living in France for 18 years before migrating here.

In regards to the e-mail, I received another one from "ebaybuyerprograme" with a note saying that ebay wants me to pay via western union to a third person.

Details are in the link below:

DO NOT purchase this. As a long time resident of Manatee County (where Bradenton is located), the address Joshua is using belongs to a mail order business named Johnson Smith Company that sells novelties. You are being scammed.

You may also want to forward this to Yahoo, as he is using nester901@yahoo.com for an email address.

That had scam written all over it. I went through very similar situation only last week with Craiglist. I responded to advert in New Haven CT for iphone 4. Got response from an Arianna Flanagan with pictures etc asking if I was still interested. Then got a response from her again saying she was now in Italy
had the phone with her and would contact me when she got back. Then two or three hours later another message saying she found a way to get the phone to me which would protect both of us and provided this link.

I immediately saw it as a scam and reported it to Craiglist but they did not seem that interested. I only ever buy on Craiglist on a face to face meeting cannot even imagine sending off that kind of money to an individual.

True for this case but not always true.

In the past I acquired a Nikon D3 from a retired photographer for $3000 when the grey market price for that item was $5500. There are golden eggs scattered everywhere for the ones that seeks them.

yep but this sounds like a total scam I say his account was hacked. I get scammers trying to get mine all the time and I am not a power seller. All the has to do is make a mistake once.

looks legit, id go for it.

Even without seeing the auction, it's obvious something is amiss. What terrible advice... I know you shouldn't necessarily trust the opinions of other people on a forum, but telling someone to shell out $2,000AUD on a scam is pretty damned irresponsible.

Very common scam with hacked accounts.

Last I saw was someone in the UK selling 10 high end apple products on 'no reserve' auction for 24 hrs only. This was a power seller with 100% positive rating. When you look at their previous comments it's 'thanks for the great jeans' 'fantastic bra' etc. If they had not been so brazen, they could have made off with tens of thousands pounds.

The email contact asking for wire transfer is the biggest red flag. There is no purchase protection with any of the big wire transfer companies.

Glad you didn't get caught out!
