Yes I agree.

The Chinese don't respect international copyright and patent law. Chinese stuff is usually junk, it may look the part but it falls apart-could be why ipods haven't got that great a reputation for reliability, yes they too are made in china. Sorry Iv'e had so many returns to stores to replace brand new chinese made products lately that its beyond a joke.Trouble is you can't buy anythng else now, even brands like Nikon are made there and break down now, quality of previously good products in general has gone down the tubes in a big way.. I want a company to start which has as its selling point 100% not made in China...I'l pay a bit more for something which works.

Buy cheap buy twice, its probably more true today than it's ever been.
At least this and the other reverse engineer companies will keep apple on their toes. They have been too complacent, living off their reputation-well I suppose someone has to do the R&D for these &*%%$$ companies (sorry its a big soap box of mine!). the iphone could be out of date by the time it arrives, there will be at leat 10 crappy clones -apples only hope is that the multitouch wows as much as it looks but it seems they have could have played their hand too early this time.

I totally agree with you on the Chinese products are horrible part. I didn't know iPods were made there, I am assuming that's why I am on my 6th iPod, also recently I purchased a Nintendo Gameboy Advanced game, it was from China, they are making fake copies some how, so now I am stuck with a fake Minish Cap auugghhhhh!!! SO anyway, paying more should give you a better product right??? I doubt it, being that I went through so many iPods I doubt the iPhone will be any different. The iPhone will most likely be built in China as well. All I know even if I wanted this thing, I couldn't afford it, besides, if you got a Macbook, you got a Cellphone, and you got an iPod, there is no reason for an iPhone. . . but that's just me! :D :D :D

actualy...

i do like how on the background of the home screen their is picture, blacked seemes to simple....

as steve demonstrated in the keynote, you can change the picture to anything you want, black is just the default.
and yes, this is a real product, and also makes ipod look alikes. Also on there site they have anti steve jobs/ipod posters (thwart the ipod, then the job is done, ipod salt being rejected, ext) so its pretty obvious that this isn' just a coincidence.

I'd be willing to pay more too for products not made in China. Unfortunately, North American unions and their outrageous demands are largely responsibile for all the companies moving their factories over to China.

Name Me 3 Electronic Products You Purchased Is NOt Made In China then.

or, maybe one? Before you are about to raise those Taiwanese, korean and Japanese brands, tell you what, they all made in mainland china.

does that mean your house is filled with Junk...

maybe it really sucks to be an american then. :p

This (original post) looks great, that is until the the faceplate and the rear come unglued in about 5 days

Thanks for the hands on review, but where did you get one of those things?

Think about it, it took Apple 2 + years to do this, do you think this company just saw a picture at MWSF 2007 and said by g-d I have it, now I understand how to build the whole thing!

Think about it, Apple has no experience at all with building phones.. its more likely that the iPhone will have flaws than that one of the carbon copies produced by companies that have 10+ years experience in building phones is crappy. For example, unlike the iPhone it seems to have a user-replacable battery...

Yeah I guess Apple never had any real experience "building" mp3 players but look at how that endeavor panned out. I'd gladly take two years of intensive research and innovation over 10 years of "going through the motion" and producing the same ol' humdrum.

Everybody in the thread who has not already said this ten times out loud should do so now.

I mean, FFS...is there even an existing vendor for a 720x480 3.3" color touchscreen? That's ... what... in the 250 dpi range? There's no existing product with a screen like that. The new LCD won't magically appear overnight. That spec is also the single biggest *bs warning* that could be attached to this product.

C'mon, you're killing our buzz!

This thing looks like an iPhone. It still (likely) functions like everything else on the market right now. They didn't just write a new OS and make an incredibly densely pixellated touch screen to copy what they know of the :apple: Phone in 1 month.

And yes, I just killed the buzz in here too.

I prefer the iPhone's aesthetics and software, and this phone has no real benefits aside from being 3G (wouldn't do all that much here in the states, as the best we really have is 2.75G and like 20-25 cities with spotty 3G), and having no dock connector (which really with the amount of accessories out there would be a stupid move to remove). Well, and the screen which doesn't actually exist, as mkrishnan pointed out so well.

You can't change the black background on iPhone

as steve demonstrated in the keynote, you can change the picture to anything you want, black is just the default.

I am pretty sure the background with the icons remains black. I don't feel like scanning the keynote to look for it, but on the iPhone Phone page, they set a photo as the background and it doesn't change the black background. Also, the "fish" background seems to be the "wallpaper" by default: unless there's two wallpapers (I find this unlikely). So I don't think you can change the black background.

"Outrageous demands" like not wanting to compete with what is essentially slave labour?

Yeah, I do very well remember the battery problems with the first generation ipods..

Since when did Apple manufacture batteries? You claimed the Meizus M8 "seemed" to have a user-replaceable battery. Care to elaborate? We're limited to speculating since neither product has yet to hit the market, but given the fact that the iPhone was demonstrated before thousands and seen by millions worldwide, I'd be more inclined to believe the iPhone is more of a believeable product over some pictures depicting product rendering.
