Here's how iPhone Handoff will let you switch between two iPhone devices with the same phone number

Announced at WWDC26, iOS 27 will support switching between two iPhone devices with the same phone number.

The feature will be called iPhone Handoff. Here's a demo of the setup.

Carrier bundles for T-Mobile US and Telekom.de in iOS 27 show the feature enabled, according to https://redesmoveisfixas.com/carrier. However, T-Mobile's enrollment server currently returns a 'feature disabled' response, so enrollment is not possible. There are some reports that enrollment was available last month.

So a second eSIM is created from the main iPhone and then transferred to the second.
Looks like it's gonna be carrier dependent in order to have the second eSIM on the same number.

I have 2 iphones on the ios27 beta. Currently my main phone is on T-Mobile, and a 2nd phone on US mobile (using T-mobile). Should I be able to get this feature going now? Right now my Cellular screen doesn't seem to have the iPhone Handoff screen.

No, it's not currently available. When available, it will appear as an available option when you tap "Add eSIM". You will also see a new "iPhone Handoff" row under Settings → Cellular → SIMs → [your active carrier line]. It'll be between My Number and Wi-Fi Calling.

T-Mobile's enrollment server returns 6101 (disabled) for the Quick Switch feature at the moment. They will probably change this closer to release. They may have allowed enrollment for a limited time last month.

Tip: Because iPhone caches carrier enrollment server responses, you may have to restart or hard restart your iPhone for the device to re-contact the server immediately when the enrollment is open again.

You will start this process on the second phone. It's similar to the eSIM transfer option, instead creating a companion eSIM.

what happens if you unlock the second phone, while the first is unlocked? Does it show an error or indication that the phone number is currently assigned to the other phone?

iPhone Handoff acts as a typical eSIM. You can have up to 2 lines active at a time on each iPhone, so this won't change any of that.

It's similar to T-Mobile's Apple Watch "DIGITS" where the handoff of the same number to the watch eSIM. Just now we have it phone-to-phone thankfully because of eSIM and multiple slots.

Im sure Verizon will find a way to slap a fee on those who want this. I still have my 13 Pro Max, it would be great to swap 17PM to 13PM if I wanted to.
