Depends how far are you from the Apple store, you could simply replace computers as long as you are not happy, practically forever (return/replacement within 2 weeks, no questions asked).

It would be changing game switch for you - laptop to large screen all-in-one - so my advice is: think.

See that's kind of my number one problem in this situation. The closest store to me is just short of 2 hours away. Ironically, there is one in 3 different direction too! ALL of them 2+ hours away. Makes me sad, /sad face.

Wrong Tom, companies are not out to lose money. Most companies, including Apple will only allow a certain number of exchanges from the same customer (usually no more than 5) before they just hand you your money back. I worked for a retail electronics store for 11 years and if we caught the same customer habitually returning products, even if they weren't the same, we would refuse to sell him anything in the future. Companies have a right a refuse service, especially to people with your way of thinking.

nobody knows the number.

but you have to realise apple have sold RIDICULOUS amounts of imacs, especially the 27" ones....

most people who have a decent machine don't come on forums and go:

HAI GUYZ GOT A PERFECT MACHINE BAI!

so you can make no assumption just because of what you have read on the internet.

by Apple's latest figures they sold 1m iMacs in their last quarter.

the computer industry in the same period sold 100m 'unit's

Not all iMac's sold were 27's either so if 0.7 or 0.8 percent is ridiculous then yes I agree.

you are answering 2 arguments with one answer.

Apple COULD keep exchanging forever but they don't have to. There is a strong argument that if multiple users have to do multiple exchanges then the overall product is faulty by design..not fit for purpose etc.

refusing exchanges is one thing, refusing to sell something is something else.

my point is....... out of the million that sold, ive seen maybe... 400 on forums that are broken?

This sucks a little bit, but you could still get it on line (and Apple brings it in and picks it up if you want to replace, no charge). Or you could simply wait for the line refresh (as the undersigned does) to avoid all the hassle...

Quite a few people reported problems on multiple machines and this is troubling.

While the forums may have many disgruntled users, just do a google search on iMac 27in' problems.

I've been recomended by an IT specialist that the 21.5in dont' have any problems with the screen, but I just don't think that's quite enough real-estate for myself, and I can't imagine dishing out 900$ for the cinema (which actually would be a bit Too big).

At any rate looks like i'll just be avoiding this line for now. Maybe at some point Apple will fix/replace/redesign the 27". Not really looking hopefully anytime soon.

It is not exactly true, but there seem to be fewer problems (or the users care less?). Mind you the 21" screen is also IPS and the (photo) quality is much higher, than any laptop (colors almost don't change with the viewing angle)

We'll know this at the last moment only, but much shorter refresh cycle wouldn't be the first for Apple. The security in Apple manufacturing in China is better, than in our military - they work in closed compounds and are guarded by dedicated security company, so the leaks are rare. I also suspect they want to avoid the Toyota treatment (..."the high pitch buzzing was irrevocably piercing my ears, Sir"...).
