Hello all, i'm switching to iOS 5 for the 4s but really need a way to hide text messages, or if possible, hide entire conversations with specific contacts.

Is that at all possible with iOS 5 specifically with the iPhone 4s? As google searches all refer to jail breaking as the solution, but seeing as theres no jailbreak currently, is it simply a no go?

Androids Handcent was so useful :(.

I'm not aware of a way to "hide" a text or text conversation. You can delete it but I don't think you can "hide" it.

Was hoping there was a way to do it so that "it just works."

I feel your pain! Coming from my evo. I can literally do anything I wanted to that phone. Now if I download music with one of those apps in the app store, the music doesn't appear on iTunes until I sync the stupid song when I'm connected to a computer. That defeats the purpose of having the app if I either have to play the songs in the app or sync the song on a computer in order to get it in iTunes. Also, it's kind of pissing me off that I can't play videos off the Internet lol. I don't know what to do about that.

That was the first thing I noticed with the SGSII, I loaded a website with a video I wanted to see and it actually played! That and attachments in email on android is awesome!

If you don't wanna keep a "private" or "cheating" text message, the only way is to DELETE it. I'm sure the girl or anybody else who wants to read your messages will find a way to do so if you don't delete it. She may even have got your password already.

The only way I can think of that will help you hide your texts, would be to jailbreak it an look for something in Cydia that does this. Unfortunately since you have a 4s, jailbreaking it is not possible right now.

Jailbreak and buy biteSMS. It allows you to hide full conversations in a really revolutionary way.

My current girlfriend does't like me talking to any of my friends.
Assume what you will, but she hates me talking to my best friends... guy or girls.
She just doesn't like me talking to anyone but her, so i'd like to find an app to avoid issues.

No offense but you have bigger issues than phone issues.

time to get a new girl friend, not a new app. Either she doesn't trust you for a reason (re: you cheated before) or she just doesn't trust you in general, which is a problem no matter what.... OR she is horribly posessive and has some major psychological issues she needs to work out. OR you are trying to cover up the fact you are a cheater and you dont' want her reading those things.

ANY of those things says you need to break it off with her, either for her, or your own good.

With that said, yeah, pretty much jail breaking is all you got, or deleting messages, which isn't that big of a problem. How often do you need to go back and re-read texts?

I have many cheating friends and the best bet is a secondary device you keep hidden that is auo payed with a debit card from a secret bank account and a mail drop for the phone bill.

Just make sure you have a proper hiding place for your second phone.

If you can't control and limit your illicit texts, I suggest just breaking up or getting s divorce. If you can't live without always texting your "friend" your primary relationship is toast.

It is not like someone will not figure out hidden convos at some point. At which point you are dead because hiding them is automatic guilt. You also could ask them to not snoop on your phone.

My feeling is if you are not going to go all the way with another phone, mailbox and bank account then you need not bother at all.

An alternative on the bank account is a prepaid phone where you just buy refill cards with cash. For god sakes throw them and the receipts away!

I think match.com has an app for that. Your relationship is doomed if your gf does not want you talking to your friends. Either she has to get over it or you have to move on.

What would you tell a friend of yours if they said their gf does not allow them to text you?

It does just work but Android allows greater control such as deleting one text in a chain of texts. I liked that quite a bit.

You have serious issues if this is the case. If she doesn't want you to do it and you want to then you need to talk to her about it and find out why. Why stay with her if you're going to hide everything from her? At the very least find out why and give her a chance to explain. She is wrong and she likely knows it's silly but she does it anyway and there may be a way she can break herself from such a problem; and it is a problem. It sounds to me as though she has no more respect for you than you have for her. You two don't belong together and I would spend more time trying to figure out your future with her than finding a text app that allows you greater control over your private life from your girlfriend.

I'm curious how you feel that the iPhone "just doesn't work" when it seems more likely that your girlfriend has major emotional issues and that the relationship itself "just doesn't work".
Maybe, and I'm guessing here, that you should worry more about fixing the original problem at hand instead of blaming a phone.
Again, I'm no shrink, but I think the phone does work but the mental stability of your lady friend is on shaky grounds.
