Howard is amazing. The show is amazing and has millions of listeners daily. Millions. Radio. Pretty rare and still very relevant.

Anyway, heard him talking about the iPad and was surprised. He didn't give 2 sh*ts about it when it was released and Ralph raved about it. Now he's in love. Pretty awesome.

This sorta sums up the bickering between the people who love Howard and the people who don't.

Researcher: The average radio listener listens for eighteen minutes. The average Howard Stern fan listens for - are you ready for this? - an hour and twenty minutes.
Pig Vomit: How can that be?
Researcher: Answer most commonly given? "I want to see what he'll say next."
Pig Vomit: Okay, fine. But what about the people who hate Stern?
Researcher: Good point. The average Stern hater listens for two and a half hours a day.
Pig Vomit: But... if they hate him, why do they listen?
Researcher: Most common answer? "I want to see what he'll say next."

Howard was at the Sex And The City II premier. Enough said. If Howard from the 80's met Howard from today he'd pummel his face.

O&A all the way, that's what I say.

O&A all the way, that's what I say.

Actually while O&A are still funny they are much less relevant than Howard is today. XM was originally outselling Sirius until Howard came on board and blew them away with how many subscribers he has been attributed to adding.

BTW - Ron and Fez on XM (who are much less relevant than O&A and Howard combined) rule!!!!

All kidding aside, Apple should be very happy that Howard likes the iPad and we should be too. It's free advertising that reaches millions of pople a day that can only further help the platform to flourish and be around for a long time.

Actually Howard left the premier before the movie started (and left his wife and daughter there to see the movie). He said he then went home and played with his magical iPad!

Ronny B is the coolest, funniest dude in the business. I love that guy. Unfortunately the show is nothing without him. Fez and Dave cannot carry that show. One day Ronny was late and I thought Fez was going to melt down. It was brutal to listen to.

I now hate Dave. I hope he leaves. :D

I'm a big Howard Stern fan.

Before Sirius and XM merged, I was in the market for a new car right after he moved to satellite and would only buy a car that had Sirius. If it only had XM available, I wouldn't even bother looking at it.

That's right - I wouldn't buy a car unless I could get Howard Stern on its radio.

Fortunately, since the merger, I don't have to worry about that (current car has XM).

And judging by the response he gets when he, or one of his show-mates (or even his wife, Beth) sit in on the various talk shows, Howard Stern is still relevant. Maybe not if you're under 20, but his fan base I don't think has ever been larger.

BabaBooey! BabaBooey! BabaBooey! BabaBooey! BabaBooey! BabaBooey! BabaBooey! BabaBooey! BabaBooey! BabaBooey! BabaBooey! BabaBooey!

/What, it took this many posts until someone did this in a Stern thread?:p

/haven't listened to him in over a decade.

Sirius made a huge mistake throwing all that money at him. He didn't deliver the subscriber numbers nor "ratings" they had hoped for. Supposedly, Opie and Anthony have more listeners.

I would like to know how many of those that are saying he is washed up and "lost his funny" have listened to him since he went to satellite.

I only started listening to him dring his last year at KROC. Way after what his critics say was his prime. I listened for a couple of years after he went to Sirius. During that whole period he got significantly less funny. Programming the stations and his insecurity about perhaps slipping in obscurity took any creativity in him away. Not having a boss to rebel against also took away most of his material. But then CBS sued and he had an enemy again. He still wasn't very funny but at least he had something to talk about. Then, he settled with CBS and had nothing left to talk about.

I still kept listening because Artie and some of the regulars were funny but then I downloaded a month's worth of shows of his from around 2000. They were so funny in comparison I stopped listening to the new shows. Eventually I ran out of old shows from the 80s and 90s and never listened to him again.

He was amazing at one point, long ago.

Where the heck did you get that statistic? Last I heard, when you used to have to pay for O&A they had in the low 5 figures in subscribers. When stern went to Sirius, their subscriber base almost immediate increased by many millions.

See, I disagree. He can do pretty much whatever he wants now, and some of the stuff is damn funny and would never, ever make it on-air at a terrestrial station.

Not a Stern fan but to call him culturally irrelevant is silly. Are you aware of his radio reach? What about the $100 MILLION a year budget for his radio shows? The hundreds of millions he has made in the last few years? Wow, people, don't you wish YOU were that irrelevant? Massive ignorance.

I'd certainly never say he doesn't have a loyal audience, has a huge contract with Sirius that makes him crazy jack and he's a pretty interesting personality... that's all a given.

But what I am saying, is that once the rules were gone (wife, boss and FCC) and you're in do-whatever-you-want land, then yeah, the edge is gone and things suddenly become far less interesting to me.

I do know that his format on Sirius appeals to a lot of folks though. And speaking of "Culturally Relevant", when has Stern made the mainstream headlines and/or driven discussion on something in the mainstream like he used to do? I think that's what people are talking about when they say "culturally relevant". For better or worse, the dude is definitely in a bubble on Sirius.

And yeah, I had Sirius for a while... I went back to my iPod (and now a Zune HD w/ Zune Pass) once I got sick of their tight and repetitive song rotations.

if those comments were true, his show wouldn't be getting paid $100m/yr and satellite that is offered in almost every new mid to luxury car would be dead. :p

The 100,000,000 goes to paying for the show staff and production of both channels and Howard TV. Not to say he's poor but that figure isn't his salary. Plus, a lot of it was in stocks which lost 80% of it's value before he sold.

F Jackie Mahlow.

The stuff he gets out of guests during interviews always gets news. Celeb blogs, etc.

The recent Tiger Woods Mistress Beauty Pageant ($75k grand prize) and the questions/answers with each - certainly got lots of attention.

His recent trip to L.A. with Beth and the big A-list party Kimell threw for him at his house just 2 weeks ago..

But then again, it's a radio show. Who else is truly making headlines in the radio biz?

*let the poison out*

Sorry but his old stuff doesn't compare to his Sirius uncensored shows. Anyone who says otherwise don't have sirius

But I miss Artie. Howard has gotten very repetitive in the last couple months. Same stories from his childhood over and over, etc. He needs to fill the Artie/Jackie chair to provide some new inspiration to riff off of.

Artie was great....true tragedy what people can do to themselves :( I am thinking they aren't replacing Artie because he's may be done after this year.

The dynamic of the show has definitely changed, but that dosen't say better or worse...to me it's just different. I will listen until there is no more show....and then I will listen to the reruns that continue afterward, particularly the older shows.

I'm glad this sparked a discussion....bring his name in the mix, and it's amazing the diverse opinions you will get. :D

Cool thing relating to all of us is he's been talking about his iPad daily....he just purchased his first iBook...lol the .99 iPad User's Guide....he's still getting aquainted lol

At the risk of steering this convo WAY off course... did someone serious ask the last time Stern made headlines in the mainstream? Do some of you live with Spongebob at the bottom of the ocean? Where were you a couple months ago when American Idol producers were trying to woo Stern to replace Siman Cowell and it was covered by every newspaper, magazine, TV and internet outlet on planet earth?
