I'm not updating to 10.13 until we're up to 10.13.2 or higher.

But I was fine unlocking my Mac with Sierra 10.12.6 and Apple Watch 3.2.3 on iOS 10.3.3, and then it was taken away for me just because my new AW S3 LTE forced me to upgrade my iPhone which broke the unlocking for now.

Apple's way of forcing us to upgrade is to break the interaction between Mac OS and iOS and Watch OS until they're all on the latest. I HATE THEM

For me, after getting an Apple Watch 3 and it not working, I powered down the watch and powered up and it worked.

Same here. When I first got my Apple Watch Nike+ w/LTE, unlock with Apple Watch worked fine... Then it didn't work - not sure why.

I did a force restart (held down both buttons on the watch until the Apple logo appeared). Rebooted my 15" MBP mid-2017 and the unlock with Apple Watch worked again. Let's hope it keeps working.

Anyone else seeing where the unlock with apple watch box unchecks itself at random?
I went above and beyond and spent hours on the phone with apple support and at the end they were able to get it working only when created a new mac user on the OS - but not my regular user.
what fixed it at the end is that i needed to sign out from icloud from my user, and sign back in, in that process, it will ask you to re-enter the mac password couple times because its encrypted and mac doesnt have access to it. after re-signing in to my icloud account (which is same as my phone obviously). it worked!

One thing I discovered (after hours of frustration) is that the unlock feature works ONLY if I am not actively sharing my screen with another computer. I have a home Mac and a work Mac on different levels of my home and I often use screen sharing to check email or grab a document from the other computer as needed. Sometimes I'll just leave the shared screen on indefinitely. As long as I'm not ACTIVELY sharing the screen of the Mac I want to be able to unlock, it works, but the minute I access the screen, using screen sharing, on the other Mac, it stops working until the sharing session is finished.

Just sharing the info in case it helps anyone else.
