But there isn't just one version of iOS now, nor is there a single version of 10.6. Why would there suddenly just be one version of iOS now? And Apple putting an unusuable camera icon on an iPad with no camera is just plain sloppy and unprofessional. This still doesn't explain why Jobs himself said HDR is coming to the iPad. I would think he meant "HDR" as in the HDR ability/function, not the code for HDR in the coding of the iOS.

He probably made a mistake. And why would there be a camera icon on the iPad? There isn't on the iPod touch.

Or maybe they'll just release a clip on camera that connects to the camera kit or just the charge port itself...

Front facing camera has a 98% for iPad 2.

Rear camera would be cool - as long as its 3+ megapixels and can record 720p "HD". The Samsung Galaxy tablet has a back camera and in the ad they mention AR, and they are right - AR is the future.

Jobs said that the HDR is coming to the iPad? Please post the time offset into the announcement where he said that. I heard him say that HDR is coming to 4.1.

As for versions of iOS, expect more convergence.... as in same source code with conditional compilation options to reflect the device-specific hardware features.

If you watched the whole show then you know that he fumbled over his words numerous times during the 1+ hour presentation. He even accidentally referred to the Nano as the iPod Touch. Applying your logic to this gaff --> "OMG! There is now a square iPod Touch!"

I predict a smaller 7" iPad to launch alongside 4.2 in November with front / rear facing cameras and HDR support.

1) AR technology is the future.

2) HD video cam + iMovie for iPad

That's pretty nutty. Considering all the posts about how heavy the iPad is to some people how on earth would it work as a HD video camera? Not every device needs every feature. And I get that you're enchanted by AR, but the same applies there. It's just not the right device for that purpose.

What about a 7 inch iPad - almost all tablets that run Android (Samsung galaxy tab) have a 7 inch screen; we could carry on and continue arguing all day; however, you have to admit a 7 inch + HD camcorder + iMovie = awesomeness. If you look at pics of the galaxy tab - a 7 inch tablet looks perfect to hold in one hand.

EDIT: I am NOT saying the Galaxy Tab is better than the iPad - it's not, OS is more important than hardware spec; however, the combination of the Galaxy Tab hardware (with a bit of tinkering) and iOS 4.....

A 7" is still half the size of the iPad (and twice as large as the iPhone). It's still larger than most people would comfortably take photos with. And just because it's on there doesn't mean people will use it or find it to be a great feature (wait a few months and then start lurking on the GalaxyRumor forum and let's see how idyllic life will be there). Yes, it's nice to have more rather than less - but as I said, not every feature has to appear in every device.

And I like the argument about "almost all tablets that run Android" having a camera.

All the features in iOS 4.2 don't have to be used in that specific iPad. The update will probably also be on the new iPad. The new iPad will probably carry ALL the features of iOS 4.2.
