Hi,

Has anyone else had iOS 13 HomePod issues? For me, anytime I ask Siri to send a text it says "Sorry, there was a problem with the app." I've already tried resetting my HomePod by removing it from the Home app as well as holding the top until it restarts.

Filed a bug with Apple but wasn't sure if anyone here is also experiencing similar issues.

Yes, this has been documented a few times on here. It seems to be a long-standing issue with iOS 13 and HomePod 12.x

All the bloody time. All kinds of issues. I have to unplug them both, then plug them in again.

WiFi issue
Playing a “radio station”, but stop after playing just one song
Only one HomePod working
Etc

Absolutely. Complete and utter ***** when it comes to reliability. My mum, just this afternoon, was saying how crap her “hey Siri” experience on her HomePod is, and she’s on release software, not beta. I don’t think they could make Siri worse if they tried!

I am also experiencing these Hey Siri issues with HomePod and a few that also extend to iOS devices running iOS 13 Public Beta, and MacOS devices running macOS Mojave and macOS Catalina Public Beta.

The issues unique to HomePod are to ask Siri to:
  1. Set a timer, but not an alarm. Alarms still work
  2. Run a Siri Shortcut.
  3. Play radio stations (works intermittently to request; works intermittently to remaining playing)
These issues work for iOS, CarPlay, MacOS without issue.

An irritating Siri issue that affects all devices is to ask Siri to:
  1. Send a message to my wife/spouse/daughter/son/father etc.
  2. Call my wife/spouse/daughter/son/father etc.
This latter issue has varied wherein it would consistently not know who my spouse was but could identify my son or daughter or sister or father. But right now, none of those names designates are known by Siri even though they are correctly connected in Contacts.

Very frustrating.

No problems at all here. Two homepods (not in stereo), an iPhone X on 13b, iPad Pro on 13b, iPhone XR on 12.4 & MacBook Air on Catalina Beta.

Really? How strange that it's so inconsistent. So, in terms of your HomePods, you can issue those Siri commands without issue? I just tried to send a timer and it is still broken here. Siri will still not recognize my spouse etc, on any device. SIGH

I use her on the HP’s the whole time and works fine. “Turn on the lights”, “play some music”, etc

Most Siri commands work for me too. The issues I have seen seem isolated to interacting with contacts. I can control lights and play music without issue except for reliably playing a stream of a radio station.

My Stereo HomePods constantly cut out and only 1 HomePod continues to play, I can tap the other HomePod and it will play something completely different for a while before it kicks back and sync's together.

I have 2 HomePods in different rooms. They lost the ability to set timers (just as I’d gotten used to using them for that) and to remind me to do something on a specific day (like today). They can still set alarms and add items to specific Reminders lists. They do everything else I used to them doing: play stations or playlists, skip songs, “Hey Siri, I don’t like that song,” etc. I’ve reset them both, to no avail. Once, after unplugging one, then plugging it back in it allowed me to set one timer. After that, nada.

Did the 13.1 beta change anything?
Not for me. After updating to 13.1, I tried setting a timer—no luck. Unplugged home HomePods, plugged them back in, each HomePod set one timer before telling something went wrong. Disappointing. I have been able to set reminders for today, so that’s encouraging.

No dice with iOS 13.1 Public Beta. Problems persist.

Me: "Hey Siri, set a timer for 30 seconds."
Siri: "There was a problem with your timer request, please try again in a minute."

Me: "Hey Siri, send a message to my wife."
Siri: "There was a problem with the app"

And now, all of a sudden, my kitchen HomePod is setting timers for me. I did a hard restart on my phone yesterday… Who knows?

I can now set specific timers and the HomePods will set reminders for specific days. Cannot send messages, though. 1 week after 13.1 beta.

Timers still working for me. I can send a message or call someone if I use their full name, but I still cannot send a message or call my spouse, daughter, son, etc.

13.1 b2. I can now send messages through my HomePods.

Thanks. I had not noticed there was an update until you mentioned it. Downloading now ...

Just to be clear:

1. Do you have contacts who are designated as spouse, father, mother, daughter, son, etc.?
2. Were you not able to send to such contacts? I could send text or calls to contacts if I used their proper names.

Updated my iPhone. Timers still work. I can call or text people if I say their name, but I cannot call or text my relations (e.g., spouse, wife, father, mother, sister, son, daughter, etc.)

I’ve only messaged my wife, by name, not as “my wife.”
