However, I do find it amusing that some are saying it is too expensive, when a couple of months ago they dropped a grand on a phone..!!! ;-)))

Although price is all relative, the difference between iPhone X and HomePod, is the iPhone X is financed likely for the majority, so they don't care about the price point as a whole, as they are making monthly install payments. As for the HomePod, that's $350 due up front.

Also, for some, the iPhone X is likely more a sought after device over the HomePod because of the popularity and iPhones are tools used everyday.

Apples target audience likely isn't the type that pre orders speakers. Depending on reviews from known audiophiles will determine their buying decision.

I preordered it since I'm an Apple fanboy...what of it? Lol

There is absolutely no comparison between an iPhone and a HomePod in terms of funtionality. One does pretty much anything you need on a daily basis and the other does only three basic tasks.

And without proper reviews, it is a punt at the moment.

Several on this forum have already commented they’re interested but waiting to either listen to one personally or see thorough reviews.

Comparing an iPhone to a desk ornament speaker is insane.

I am surprised. The watch and airpods when they first came out the shipping dates slipped. I think this is the first "new" product that I can remember that has not slipped. I think it is the price point for a speaker that you have never heard. In store demo's could change peoples mind though.

I do wonder if the Sonos sale (2 for $350) has anything to do with it? Those do sound pretty good and you get stereo for the price of one homepod

I think if it had been released for Christmas they probably would have sold out. Many people are still paying for Christmas purchases so they're probably going to wait. I'm getting one Space Gray and I'm looking forward to comparing it to my Echo.

Homekit hub functionality is another bonus as I don't have an Apple TV that supports it and is something I want as I've started to dabble in smarthome stuff with Homebridge.

They missed Christmas and they haven't really pushed it. Look at the "film" you can watch at Apple.com. It doesn't even have any Ive talking about the unapolegetic mesh of the design. Just 15 seconds of: it can play music I guess.

Combine that with premium wifi speakers being a bit niche to begin with (what share of your friends has Sonos?), and you get a slow launch. This one is going to be all about word of mouth.

I do hope that if it bombs and they cut price, us faithful preorderers get a gift card like when the iPhone price was cut.
