Well despite my protestations I ended up getting a 128gb JetBlack iPhone 7. My next door neighbour's phone died and she wanted a 6S 64gb and offered me a good price for my white model. So I sold it to her and then the iPhone 7 128gb only cost me an additional €150.
Just about justifiable upgrade at that price. Just ....

Was nervous about going jet black but decided whilst being impulsive what the hell. Stuck a case and a screen protector on and I'll hope for the best.

Anyway back to the point ....

My next testing will add the iPhone 7 into the mix with the Honor 8 and S7 in various lights including low light scenarios.

I love my JB7+. It's definitely an eye pleaser.

Yeah, figured it was onlly a matter of time. ;)

While I don't put myself even in the same galaxy as you regarding smartphone photography, I'm going to try my best to compare the cameras of the iPhone 6s+, Nexus 6P, and Pixel XL in a few weeks when the XL arrives. Realize they are separate phone generations but seem like they'd appeal to the same customer so will try to hash together something that resembles a comparison review as well.

I'm intrigued by the Pixel. If it lives up the camera hype, I would consider a blue & white 5" pixel :)

Yeah it's much nicer looking in the flesh that I suspected ...

Must say one thing I noticed is using an iPad charger, the phone is charging super fast compared to the 6S/6S+ using same iPad charger.

Can't say I can feel any performance benefits, the home button took a little while to get used to how it feels now.

I ended up returning my JB 7+ and swapping it out with a Matte black instead, while the JB is very nice to look at. There is a degree of unease when I am handling it and it doesn't help that the demo devices in my local Apple Store are already horrifically scratched on the back while the matte black is still pristine. I also quite like the stealthy look of the matte black but the Jet Black with a clear full body skin still tempts me at times.

There is a new 35 watt USB c charger, That's even better.
Congrats on your new phone btw.

I have a matte black 7+ that I'm thinking of replacing with a jet black, when they are easier to find. But I'm really loving the matte black as well.

It really depends on how much scratches and fingerprints bother you. The S7 Edge was an absolute fingerprint magnet although the back wasn't as susceptible to scratches and yet I still couldn't imagine carrying it without a case. I was lucky to be able to reserve a Jet Black 7+ but the scratching is really an issue. Straight out of the box, there were a few slight "micro-abrasions" probably due to the manufacturing process and while it looked good, after about an hour it looked exactly like my S7E does covered in fingerprints.

If you do end up grabbing the Jet Black, I suggest you install a clear skin on the back right away in order to preserve the finish. That was my plan of action but I've read that there is issues with cases even when using the thinnest skins so I ended up just switching the phone out for a colour which I believe is more manageable.

Tell you what. They are all very good (haven't we come a long way with smartphone cameras!). Think the S7 is just a little better detail. Also the S7 and the Honor appear to have the right colour balance where as the IP7 looks a little off.

Could be my eyesight though!

The feather on the iP7 was taken earlier in the morning than the other two, so it does look a little darker and you can see the moss on the wood is a little more swelled from the damp. But the can was taken all at same time.

Yeah not a huge difference between all of them. It is indicative that we have come a long way and it's good for those on smaller budgets to know that they are getting cameras than can keep up with more expensive handsets.

I'll do some lowlight shots next :)
[doublepost=1475774242][/doublepost]Low light. They are all a bit grainy. TBH I wouldn't be happy with any of these photos to keep, it's more a case of which is the least terrible.

Nicole Scott just did a three way with the Honor 8, Note 7 (same camera as S7) and 7+ (same regular cam as 7). Her results are similar to mine.

in the low light ones the S7 best, honor is worst and ip7 has blown highlights (top of the muchrooms)

I did have to shoot the S7 in pro mode, the auto mode results were not as good.

I wish the iPhone had a pro mode.

Just quick update ... got my first micro scratch on the jet black 7 !!!!

Going to take out Apple Care + and if it's scratched to pieces in a few months time I can always just pay for the accidental damage replacement and get a scratch free phone.

Best way to safeguard it's resale value for next year.

I immediately put a case on my JB 7, I got it last week but I think it is a goner. Considering I don't need its storage capacity, its smallish display, its resolution and cost it just is not a keeper in my eyes.

Yeah, seriously I would never have spent €900 on this thing. The price is just insane. It's only the fact I got massive price for my 6S to justify it otherwise I wouldn't have considered it at all. Price of apple phones has just become a real stumbling block even for gadget nerds like me.

One thing I don't like about Samsung camera pics is the tendency to turn lawns and pretty much any manner of greenery a saturated asparagus green hue.

I think the Honor 8 holds its own pretty well among the phones twice it's price. However, when they did the recent blind photoshoot test recently, Android Central completely removed the Honor 8 pics from the competition, saying they were too bad to include. Thinking of the results you've gotten here with yours, I found that surprising. Especially since they included a Lumia phone, and not to be mean, but who the hell cares about Lumia anymore beyond a few fervent devotees of Windows phones? And the Lumia fared poorly overall except for a couple of categories.
[doublepost=1476118210][/doublepost]Listening to Nicole's video with headphones on it sounds like the Honor 8 has stereo recording capability but is weaker at picking up her voice than the Samsung. The iPhone was weak overall and lacked the ability to record in stereo and give life to the sound and a sense of direction that the Samsung and Honor 8 could deliver. I'm sure true audiophiles could explain it better with the proper terminology but that's the best I can do.

I found Nicole's iPhone photos to look like faded album photos. I didn't find them pleasant at all, unfortunately.

Thats kind of why i went from jet black on the plus to matte black. I think in a clear case matte black looks better to me.

I may indeed need up with the MB 32gb, I can justify that more than the JB at its cost. I already have a clear case Caseology) so I am good to go with that.
