Its less prone to dents on the edge, and rim, by a large margin. It is not more durable to drops on the face and back, not not overall more durable to higher drop tests than the Pro.
Not much of a choice for us : “how do you like your iPhone ? Dented and scratched or smashed and cracked ?” 😂

So how do you feel shinny finishes and color loss before they happen?
It is universal fact that anodized ( will lose paint) aluminum ( will dent easy)
Paint loss is true even on coated steel so I’d always buy silver, no dents no paint. Only patina
 
the air has that bar of soap effect that reminds me a lot of the iphone 6 (i know a lot of people liked that design—i hated it). the other thing is it's an even larger screen than the base pro, which just makes it more unwieldy for small hands not less.

Oof.. That is not what I would want to hear.

I've never encountered a more slippery piece of tech than the iPhone 6.
