I just set up my Hotmail account and it went through just fine.

One question though - everything I read said to accept the SSL certificate, but I was never prompted to do so and never saw a mention of SSL when setting it up?

Its automatically set to on.
You can check via: settings -> mail -> exchange mail account -> account info - you'll see "use ssl" at bottom

Yippeee its finally working!! :D

Have tested it and it definitely supports push and synchs with my hotmail account.

My folders work fine - when I open up the folders the emails take a little while to download them but then stay after that. I guess the time it takes depends on your connection (mine's pretty quick as I'm using wifi currently)

Cool, I figured it out, you have to go into settings and add which folders you want synced.

this is what i did to get old stuff in the folders, go into exchange settings and set 'mail folders to push' and select the ones you want and 'mail days to sync' to no limit. otherwise it's limited to the days set

I just set it up after reading this forum. So far seems like it's working properly.

Will definitely make my life easier!

So glad they finally did this, much better than izymail who I had been using for years to do the same thing :)

will this kill my battery?

does it keep checking for updates every minute?

or does it work just like gmail imap setup?

Finally! It was always frustrating to have to manage my hotmail account twice (iPhone and PC).
It's ironic that MS was the last to the party in supporting there own API!

It probably won't kill too much battery. When I recently setup gmail sync, I barely noticed the difference. So I now have gmail and hotmail sync as well as mobileme mail and battery is still excellent.

in the setup... where it says mail folders to push, do i have to select sent, trash, junk and all my other folders?

It depends on what you want. I just have inbox set to push as thats the only folder I will be getting mail into and what I what to be synched all the time automatically.

If you select all the others I guess it'll probably take a little extra battery to constantly check and push/synch those folders too. If you dont select them you can still open them and see your mail - just it'll take a few seconds for it to check and synch the folder to be up to date.

so if i dont select those folders to sync, if i update any of them at one point or the other, will it reflect on my email when i log in through safari?

Yes they'll still be synched and be reflected on hotmail on PC

also, with activesync, how often does it check for mail?

You can choose this in the settings - if set to push then its instantly updated. Otherwise you can turn push off and select fetch at a given time.

The best thing is to play around with it and see what suits you best.

I gave it a go and it didn't work. Applications like Outlook and Mac Mail don't use Exchange ActiveSync to connect to an Exchange server.

As such, I don't think it'll work with a desktop client.

You can get Outlook Connector from microsoft and it will sync all your outlook stuff to the server. I've got this on my work PC and it syncs up my Outlook calender perfectly.
