I have those, and those 2-driver headphones are pretty nice, I just can't get one to seal in my ear no matter what, so they've fallen by the wayside.

I have heard folks just put on a pair of over the ear headphones that have good sound isolation and that also helps with sealing the sound since the pods don't fit right in one's ears.

But if you are going to wear over the ear headphones anyway, the only reason I can think of for doing that is that the sound from those $79 earpods is better.

I am pretty sure the air pods don't use NFC as they are compatible with Apple devices that don't have NFC chips. The headphones will connect via a Bluetooth connection, just not to each other; that will use a different connection, handled by the W1 chip, I'm sure. From what the product page states you won't get 10 hours of battery life by using one airpod. First off if you take one out of your ear the music would pause, secondly they have separate batteries in each airpod, so the maximum one could get is 5 hours using Apple's testing procedures.

I really wish Apple would post some more technical details about these, as there is a lot of information floating around that is contradictory.
You've misunderstood quite a lot of what I was saying.

The. NFC thing was on my wish list for the Air Pods when rumors started to build up that the iPhone 7 was going to drop the headphone jack.

When I said 10 hours using 1, I was saying by swapping out the Air Pod after 5 hours.
They have the ability to operate separately and they have 5 hours each.

These aren't even "issues" for all people, and many current headphones don't have them anyway. I have Bose QC35.

1. Turn on your headphones, you get a voice in them saying "Battery at xx%, paired to ____'s iPhone." It's one step.

2. Mine sound great. Apple Music "high quality on cellular", plus the QC35's, and I have no complaints.

3. Never once dropped a connection, or had any other problems. I even carry my phone in my back pocket, which the trolls claim its impossible for Bluetooth to travel through the human body.

4/5. I get the rated 20 hours of battery life, which is a lot of music/podcast listening, and about every fourth or fifth day I charge them overnight just like my phone. Why is this such a huge complaint for some people? It's truly painless. And if for some reason I forget to charge them, QC35 come with a cable to use them as regular wired headphones.
1) Certainly not all wireless options have that. And that has nothing to do with pairing with multiple devices.
2,3,4,5) Yours are $350 wireless headphones, not wireless earphones.

Wait. Did you just say that they fixed Bluetooth audio quality?! Lmao. Please. Have you ever listen and compared high end bluetooth headphone (sennheiser momentum wireless) vs any other similar price and cheaper wired headphones?! It's not even close. Lightning port does NOT make your headphone sound better and Bluetooth audio sucks. High priced Bluetooth headphones are so expensive but they still lag behind $150 wired headphones.

Even if they fixed all those problems, I am definitely not buying them if they sound the same as EarPods.

Personally, convenience trumps sound quality so it fix almost all problems for me but one.. volume adjustment (uh, makes that two for skipping songs). Fortunately I have Apple Watch.

I was reluctant to make the jump to wireless. I have a 6s+ so I can still use wired, but I got a pair of Beats bluetooth earphones and I absolutely love them - the sound, great fit, and the 12 hour (+) battery life is fantastic.
I wear them all night as I listen to music even while sleeping. They never fall out or get uncomfortable.
I took the time to try out many different combinations of the ear tips and found the ones that fit and sounded best. Sure, there are a lot cheaper ones but they just don’t sound as good.
I also have a pair of inexpensive (sub $50) JVC Bluetooth headphones and they are super for the price. So good I bought two pairs.
I never use my wired Beats headphones any more and ain’t looking back.

They almost have, yeah.

I actually think companies like Samsung (of who's phones I appreciate for the most part), are slowing the progression of wireless earbuds due to their holding onto the headphone jack.

If the headphone jack was removed from all big manufacturer phones, then we'd see a much quicker evolution of Bluetooth ear buds.

Everything else is going wireless, so it's inevitable earbuds will too...just need more significant phone makers to help their development along.

You know how to change volume on it? You have to say "Turn the volume up" lol...Just like using Siri in public, it's awkward and if I have to dig out my iPhone to do that, AirPods aren't exactly convenient.
I just feel for the volume buttons through my pocket.

edit..
Ahh, this is an old thread...interesting to know people's thoughts now anyway...
