That makes no sense. Wouldn't the sports band in each collection constitute the cheapest (base) price? It's at least listed as a model in the respective collection so it makes sense they'll be out of the box options.

In that case, amend my post to say that each one will be offered with the sport band as the base band.

Ah not so fast! I thought you were right too until I spotted in the description '18-Karat Gold Pin' which means that its not the standard sport strap but rather a variation made specifically for the gold watch. Also if the pin is 18-karat gold the stap will cost more than the standard sport one.

Also the App Icon seems to show the Stainless Steel with Sport Band.
On the 9to5Mac podcast, Mark Gurman was saying that he thinks Apple will let people pick a watch, then pick a strap, and then calculate a price, even in the store. Even if they don't do it in store, they'll certainly do that online. I really don't think Apple is going to try to price people out if they're already willing to pay one premium for the stainless steel variant.
The point is the sport band with the 18-karat gold pin will be an out of the box option (even if it's more expensive than the other sport bands) as they're showing it as a model in the Edition collection.
I wonder if the straps will come in different lengths?
And before you all say it.... YES... I know they can be adjusted.
However, can they be adjusted enough, esp for someone with much smaller wrists.
In one video there was an Apple employee adjusting a strap and even on a buys wrist it looked like the end was near to coming round too far.
Wonder if they will perhaps offer an extra small sport strap for example?
Perhaps a kids size?
If you look at the white strap above, look at the end of the inner piece of white rubber, it's not got far to go before it's going to touch the back of the watch.
Or you could cut the end of it off I guess ?
If you think I'm being silly then watch this video, just near the start.
Note the wearer already is wearing the watch a bit too near his hand I'd say, if he slipped it back a bit away from his wrist, his wrist would be a bit smaller than wear he has it.
then watch how he demonstrates pulling the strap open and closed again, note how near to coming right round to the body of the watch this strap is.
And this is on a mans wrist. Let's assume he's average.
It's borderline not that far away from being too long on his wrist.
Let alone on a women or a teenager.
Wonder if this is going to be an issue, can't understand whey they seem to have made them so long.
Unless as I say they do plan on perhaps 2 length options, for some straps at least?

Maybe, but I think kids are the least of their concern right now in terms of who they're marketing it to (especially at the $350 starting point).
The whole area of the unknown right now, and where we are all guessing and arguing about is, will you HAVE to have one of a small selection Apple have decided goes with the body you have selected or can you choose to have any strap?
We know we will be able to buy additional straps, but, as I say we don't know this one point.

Well we know certain bands/straps won't be on certain watch sizes. If I could get a Stainless Steel Apple Watch with the Sport Band, Leather Midnight Blue Band and or the Stainless Steel Link bracelet I would be very happy, if I could get all that for under £1000 I would be even more happy.
It seems at least the Sport bands will:

I hope they do come in different sizes. I have big wrists and need a big band. I'm still torn between the Sport Space Gray or Stainless with Blue Leather strap (both 42mm). I'm leaning towards the Stainless for durability if I can afford it.

Yes, you're right. So that indicates the bands for each fitment will be available in various sizes.
This would be my guess. I'm sure Apple has it all planned.
