Price sounds reasonable enough..... As an f/1.8, no surprise that it is not a GM lens. That would've probably been an f/1.4 and significantly more expensive. I don't shoot a lot of wide-angle but there are indeed times when one really needs the flexibility to do so..... Street shooters will love this lens! It is definitely something to consider, anyway, but I am in no hurry and so will wait and see reviews, etc.

Since I still intend to get the 24-105mm all-purpose lens anyway, I would have the 24mm width covered if needed.

20mm is kind of a unique focal length that depend upon how well it compliments other primes. with the 55 and 35, that is a big jump to the 20, suggesting more the 24/25 range. But if you have the 55 and 28, the 20 becomes more natural and potentially skip the 18 which would fit better with the 24/25.

At $898 for the Sony 20 f1.8 G lens it is priced competitively with the Tokin Firin 20 f2 @ $949 and the backbreaker heavweight Sigma 20 f1.4 at $899. That would compare with the Batis 25 f2 $1299 (around $1100 on sale) and the 24 1.4 GM at $1398 never on sale. That is not really that big a price premium for the 1.4 GM lens, as others like the 85 1.8G and 85 1.4GM are much wider. Makes a difficult decision, but having the 35 (and the 16-24) the 24/25 seems more like a natural fit that compliments the others.

Right now I have the 35mm f/1.8, 50mm (macro), 85mm f/1.8, 90mm (macro) and 135mm f/1.8 in prime lenses. Got my long reach covered by the 200-600mm zoom. I don't shoot wide-angle all that often and I am thinking that when I eventually get the 24-105mm zoom that will take care of the 24mm field of view, so that maybe the 20mm would fit in nicely if I want to go pretty wide without veering into too-wide territory. Not in any hurry, I've got a couple of other lenses I want to get first, anyway -- one being the aforementioned 24-105 and the other the intriguing 100mm STF.

"G" and "GM" lenses are also E-mount, actually FE, just to clarify things for those who might be confused. Full-frame lenses are designated with "FE" since many of the E-mount lenses are APS-C meant for Sony's APS-C line of cameras. Yes, I have been quite pleased with my non- "G" or "GM" lenses, just as much as with my one "GM" and two "G" lenses. There definitely is a difference in the price tags, though! Also, size and weight as well....

Exactly. Lenses labeled FE are still E-mount but the "F" refers to full-frame, since many e-mount lenses are meant for APS-C.

People who bought into the A-moun t system really got pushed aside, didn't they? That must not have felt good. I know adapters were available and still are but in the end Sony really did do those early users a disservice.
