I just bought a 2020 model (2nd gen, 128gb memory, 11", with pencil). So excited!! Can't wait to receive it and hope it is as good as it looked on Ebay (always a risk). Thank you all so much for your help, it is really very much appreciated.

Very late to this thread but broadly agree with the statements in it, only thing I’d have added is that apple refurbs in the U.K. Apple Store also
worth looking at as you get new battery but prices probably somewhat out of budget.
I am still fairly happy with my 2018 version, but am starting to suffer a bit from faster depleting battery plus slow results when searching for an app using cmd + space. Sometimes I have to wait several seconds before commonly used apps appear.

I have a 12.9 2018 iPad Pro, I love it. It's still pretty fast despite being more than four years old, they really future-proofed this thing with the A12X. Two issues though, first one (as others have mentioned) is the RAM. 4gb is still okay, it's not terrible but it won't be the best with multi-tasking. There's also the problem with the iPad being easily bent. I have mines bent unfortunately, so you gotta be careful with it or add a good case to protect it. I regret not using a case which is why mines got bent.
Other than those two issues, it's a pretty good iPad.
