When was the last time you dropped your phone and broke the glass? I have been using many different versions of iPhones throughout the years (starting with the 3GS) and I have never done this.

I personally think the 6/6s/7 form factor is very nice but it still has breakable glass in it (i.e. the screen). I really don't get the concern over breaking the glass.

Not often.
Last time I dropped my 4S many years ago and cracked it. I went to Apple and they replaced the back piece for $30. This is clearly not the case any more.
But even though Im very careful and it hasn't happened much in the past it doesn't mean it will never happen in the future either;)
Off course if I break the screen I will consider myself lucky cause now the front screen is way cheaper than changing the back.:D

I can already imagine the dialogue next year in comment sections -

"That space blue looks so hot. Product RED looks incredible. I hate you Apple for making a color option that looks better than mine! I want, I want, I want! My X will become my ex."

or

"I'm perfectly content. I love my X. I don't need an extra gig of RAM. I don't need a better front camera. I don't care for faster charging. I don't need new color options. I don't need improvements! My special anniversary iPhone X is still perfect!"

^ Denial is not the only river in Egypt.

All companies do the same thing. Just one year when you think it is so perfect, another one comes up that makes you regret getting the previous one.

In 2019 - wash, rinse, repeat. A better and more refined design with a revamped iOS13. Smaller notch. Faster Face ID. Touch ID returns? Metal back? Ceramic? More sexier colors. A13 chip that blows the doors of the A10 & A11.

That's the template of all consumer brands out there. Car makers do the same. Minor redesigns and call it the new year model. They add little things and tweaks to entice you.

Remember the film, Casino (1995)? Think of them like casinos.

Expect more than two colors next year. My only wish? Space gray rear with stainless steel silver banding. Throwback back to the iPhone 2G/3G/3Gs fronts and rears of the black 4 series. The iPhone Eks-es, Eks-One, or Eleven honors five generations of iPhones, front and back...

I also think that colours is the obvious choice. This is the strategy they followed with the iPod. There was only so much they could do with an MP3 player. It was more than fast enough in the first generation and additions like colour screens could only be done once. An ever changing case design was how they kept iPod fresh every year.

I think that the same will happen with the iPhone X.

The Apple Watch lineup is a good guideline:

- Entry level: Aluminum band with glass back in several colours.
- Flagship: Steel band with ceramic or sapphire back in 2 or 3 colours.

Other than aesthetics, as I pointed out throughout this thread, I believe that the iPhone has reached an inflection point. The iPad reached it 2 or 3 years ago. It’s faster than app development can keep up with taking advantage of its power.

They can iterate like they do with the Mac but you don’t buy a Mac every year or even every few years. This is why I think they’ve pushed the price point up. They’re expecting people to keep the iPhone X a lot longer than previous cycles.
