How Can I Tell Whether My MBP Is Sleeping

I had my computer sleep at 80% from 3/1 to 3/6 and lost 60% of my battery due to Deep wakes from idle. This is crazy! Can't depend on sleep anymore with these Macs.

MBPs used to have a "breathing" LED that would slowly pulsate while Mac is sleeping, they don't have that anymore, sadly.
