I guess op is right it is harder then it looks!

Its alot harder than it looks when you expect everyone to hold your hand instead of doing a little research on your own.....

yeah man its just to avoid these types of sticky situations! i know ive made mistakes like that before and it took a world of headache to get my phone back to the way it was. so we all learn our lessons. just something to keep in mind for the future.

but now that that's out of the way, were you able to find any solutions? i was under the impression that 3.1.3 couldn't be unlocked. which means you would have to downgrade back down to 3.1.2 and then jailbreak and unlock...

If this is still about the 2G, it can be downgraded and unlocked from 3.1.3.

If it's a 2G it doesn't need to be downgraded. You can jailbreak and unlock it on 3.1.3 using the latest version of Redsn0w. Follow this tuturial, but skip Step Two. There is no need for you to restore, since you just did.

Note: even though you are on 3.1.3, follow the instructions in this tutorial exactly, downloading the 3.1.2 firmware firmware file, and selecting it in Step Five. You're actually tricking it into jailbreaking a phone it doesn't think it knows how to jailbreak (because the app was written before the release of 3.1.3). Don't worry, it will work fine.

Of course

going by your original post there is no way to use tmobile with out being both Jailbroken and unlocked! but 2g is quite easy! :D

T'll try that. But i'm thinking about just switching to AT &T, and then buying a 3gs. I can afford a new phone, just not a new jailbroken and unlocked iphone. lol, i hate the price difference.

If you are going to use it on AT&T, just do the regular restore. Then go into an AT&T store and have them set it up for their network. You will NOT have to sign a 2-year contract, and you can still get the cheaper original data plan which is $20 and comes with 500 txt messages.

This should tide you over until Juneish when the new phones come out which you will be able to get at the subsidized discount.
